Two Lovers

Post by QuietAstronomer » March 27th, 2014, 1:21 pm

We sat upon the hillside,
the clouds we did espy.
Hip to hip, our eyes connect,
in hopes we would not die.
Two lovers lost in memories,
our lives fulfilled and true.
We long for days now past,
the lost ones long eschew.
Her pulsing tail touched mine,
and our eyes met once more.
She hissed and smiled gently,
my power once more implore.
We know our days are passed,
the throngs no longer fear.
Yet, in our glory somewhere,
the legend will hold dear.
A flap of leather wing,
as we sail into the night.
No longer filled with enmity,
we soar in silent flight.
As cloud rush by in silence,
I circle her majestic form.
And into history we sail,
toward the coming storm.
Armradin, my lover dear,
is leading to our end.
Our destiny now sealed,
and I, Osmorak, attend.
For soon the time will be,
when we no longer reign.
For days of draco flying,
are now so near the end.
The future may not know us,
winged wraiths that fly on high.
But she and I will pass our days,
as masters of the sky.
So when you look toward heaven,
remember us if you can.
The mightiest of dracos,
who once ruled this fateful land.
And know that for the ages,
she and I were lovers best.
We return to lovers' lair,
and into final rest.

Lovely -as a long-ago fan of LeGuin it is a facet she did not address, and true to human hearts also.

Smaug, Dragonslayer, Christopher Paolini, Dragonheart; names from my dragon memorabilia and now you add two more (but they do sound familiar Rozhay). The tails touching was quite a surprise from the expected human contact and I'm still smiling after reading this softer scene set with some of your favorite beasties. Definitely an unusual love story with a legendary feel to it - now I feel like a smoke, cheers!

Really enjoyed the flow of the draconian element in this writing. Little dark, as those beings were not always in the light, but I felt that maybe you should think about switching to the more facile "dragos".

But aye, I know the element in which you are expressing from within is your own consciousness connecting to the energy within. The dragon energy represents a self that is coming to understand the magical energy that is inside. It is part of the lower self, which, in essence, can move into a higher state with simple clarity as seen in your writing. It allowed me to see that the dragons are just as emotionally glued to their times as we are, and the sensation of the tail touching sent shivers down my spine.

Awesome flow, good rhymes, just trying to figure our your obsession with Armaddin lol.

Even with the fantasy element, this poem reads like a sweet, enchanting love story - suitable for any realm, human or otherwise. It's written like a good story telling narrative should be, flowing from the tongue with a tight form, solid rhyme, and memorable turn of phrase. Even though the ending suggests the lovers' days are their final ones, there's something inherently romantic about passing together.
Congratulations on the spotlight Rhozay!

I am really not a reader of fantasy and know very little about dragon lore. I was taken aback by the sudden reference to tail touching. I found this an enchanting read, romantic, mysterious and tinged with sadness. Congratulations on a well deserved Spotlight.

Thanks much for sharing.

Lovely, slow and smooth...not one word rushed. Like a smooth 2 finger pour...wonderful.

I too enjoyed this piece. A wonder filled bittersweet tale( or is that tail?) Some may think it dark... I prefer to believe that it is merely the beginning of evening. Definitely a different take on dragons.
