half of a nightmare

~

half of a nightmare
my life of sudden fears
iron bands around everything
fantasies deleted
new life exchanged for more of this
I am a burnt bread
who can eat me but burnt rabbits?
the death of my happiness
envelops me...

half of a nightmare
this morning of demise and smelly
oranges of the other hells
that the others have not known
while I sleep in them
while I wake in them
to sweat out my joys
to bleed my fun
to die a countless times...

the other dream I remember
of spring and happy men and women smiling
where things smell like christmas
in every tiny corner
where god shines through our skin
where the night sings hospitality
for the strangers in our bones
that used to tell us
the news of the next happiness...

I remember, remember I do
but evil grass is growing
the dense secret of wickedness
touching our world again
"despair" I hear an invisible child murmur
the mild priest can't smile anymore
and the peace of our tongues
falls to pieces inside of us
a torn and harsh bed awaits...

send your fire
I ask my god of silent love
send your water
I plead my god of happiness
it is like dying
my breath exclaims and I look up
to a sky of knowing
knowing what to do
and doing it quickly...

I see justice in the eyes of the needy
their balloon has been ripped to shreds
their meat has been robbed
their wine has been spilled
it smelled after blood yesterday
and it is singing, abba come, abba come
and as they are released when they die
the prison seeks those who are rich
to create the truth of justice anew...

She told me to live.
Speak of the lonely.
Time is an invitation.

This is like a few stories in one as I read different kinds of "dreams" in it, or maybe the dream splitt up in a side story. I loved stanza two and five, but the overall piece is great due to the tence frantic feel of it.
Reminds me of People speaking in tongues or to ghosts or entities. Great chilling piece, FreePreacher!!!

really enjoyed this...loved the contrasts of hope and despair, comfort and pain. I'd like some relief too...but please God let it not taste like cinnamon or look like garland or smell like cider...please no more happy Christmas people. - dew

This reminded of war survivors and the countries that have to face the aftermath of a terrible war. Such tragedy, such anger in a piece. It touched me to the core. Beautiful and so heart wrenching

First off let me say congrats for a well deserved spotlight. This poem was was really really really good. The first stanza pulled you in with some vivid ideas and images and then you proceeded to weave happy images/happiness into sad images and sadness. Thanks for sharing
