Juggler

Juggler

It starts with just a ball or two,
And not much else for you to do.
One in the hand, one in the air,
You like the feel and so you dare
To pick up three and even four;
But then start craving something more.
And although you find daggers scary,
Plain balls just seem ordinary.

So you start slowly with just one,
But soon, for you one’s just no fun.
You like the risk of tossing two
Of something that finally suits you.
And when you take that third in hand,
With all else silent, dark, and damned;
Their shines a gleam within your eye
As one by one the daggers fly.

But blades can prove a tricky thing,
A juggler no substitute for wing;
If the timings off by just a hair,
The price of blood seems more than fair.
All fly from you, a work of art,
Never to meet, ever apart
Within the web of air you spin
Daring yet to woo another in.

As you run the gambit of the mind,
The blades a flurry, intertwined;
And you find it quite stimulating,
The silver flashes undulating.
The power, the passion, the control—
Mastery of the human soul.
You ride the near orgasmic high
As another dagger paints the sky.

For insatiate thrill of game,
You risk it all, and with no shame.
Mere objects now, in nimble palm.
Your face, a remarkable calm.
One final lesson, by decree,
To ever live in infamy…
Etchings, hand carved, on your stone,
“Some daggers have minds of their own!”

Michael Anderson

But dreams—of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned, and die:

Michael, just marvelous and a magnificent read as well! The progression to more risky behavior and the thrills we seek to break the boredom. A magical metaphor until we exceed our abilities and realities come to bear. Going back for another read of this wonderful work, cheers! I was wondering how you might wrap this one up, and humor is always a dark winner!

hello Darkness,

this poem really hit the spot, quenching my thirst for a tasty sip of darkness! I loved the way every line just rolls right off the tongue...so tantalizing!!! very smooth... like a fine sippin' whiskey! I much admired the rhythm and flow of this masterpiece! my favorite lines are:

But blades can prove a tricky thing,
A juggler no substitute for wing;
If the timings off by just a hair,
The price of blood seems more than fair.
All fly from you, a work of art,
Never to meet, ever apart
Within the web of air you spin
Daring yet to woo another in.

I love dark humor!
always, Cat

This poem was wonderfully conceived and crafted; the creeping evil is so intense, what a wonderful subject;
a compulsive, evil juggler. Really powerful and dark, scary as well to me. Well done. Loretta

Fast paced, easy, natural rhythm. This is a poem that is easy to read silently or aloud and it all just falls into place.

Your poem brought back memories of trying to juggle balls as a child. I remember the thrill of adding the third ball. I knew 'Darkness would not let this poem end on a happy note so I expected a black ending. I was not disappointed and the TPS spotlight recognition was well deserved.
