Simple As This

Post by eploscik » August 31st, 2016, 10:26 pm

Delayed the inevitable
Some have given up
In my quest
But that's where I'm best
With my back against the wall.

Answer the bell
Not going to dance around the ring
I'm coming out swinging
With a vengeance
Been pushed around
Mocked and left for dead
The victory will taste sweet
When I find relief
In following my instincts
For once.

There's no point in rattling
And mumbling on
I've analyzed, predicted and pontificated
Intellectualized, rationalized
Through every sweat and teardrop
So, let's cut to the chase
I'm an addict
And I best follow the directions
To the letter
Or I'll be pushing up weeds
In an unmarked grave.

P-6/12/15.

Confession of one's failings is always a significant starting point Eplo. May the days of your need speed by, in your quest for a better life. Be strong and cheers! - Dan

Addiction is a shared human frailty. You recognize it and don't like it but you write about it. The will to fight is the gate of change. Surrender is the sweet gate of destruction. We (those of us with this problem) all have a fighting chance.

Hmmm I like how the poem starts with them on top, fighting, winning before it explains the terrible foe they're facing. Very hard to win that battle
