Prairie Whispers

Post by Forestdawn » February 14th, 2016, 2:22 am

From pounding hooves
of ancient beasts
in long lost sands of time,
When bison roamed
and Hopi danced
within this natural clime.

From pounding beats
of ancient drums
when sounding 'cross the plains,
Then thunder crashed
and lightening flashed
which brought the summer rains.

Winds whip slowly
through the grass
which waves a soft good-bye,
As if to say
farewell to thee
with one long lasting sigh.

Then visions fade
into the night,
gone are the prairie shifters,
And what remain
are dust and bones
and lonely prairie whispers.

By the Eternal! This just goes to show that "great minds think alike!" I love the tone of this, it soft, almost a lover's words whispered with a longing for what was and will not be again at least not in the persona's lifetime.

This is well written. It's really beautiful. As an Australian i can only romanticise such landscapes through what i see on television. I would one day love to travel to America and bask in its glorious natural beauty. Thanks a heap for sharing this one. It really is good.

Many years ago I traveled by Gray hound bus and saw that land that is old as time thanks for the memories. Well written as it is striking to behold.

I've never been to the prairie, but, I've been among a field of bison and the mystery of wild beasts in a space where they can be themselves, and I think you've captured a spirit so well. The lull of your lines, like music played on native drums, which, though many things have been lost, have been preserved over centuries of cultural degradation.

I loved the images and song of this. It felt very much like stand on the crest of a small hill alone with the grasses and a sighting of distant animals with the wind catching your hair, calling you to move closer. Lovely poem.

This poem embodies why The Nature is one of my favorite boards. Excellently written.
