Rustle of grounded leaves
Ears perk to the tune of new footsteps.
Puffs of breath, heightened tension,
Forest dwellers stir from somber rest.
Amethyst eyes search about the green,
A smile soft creeps along a pale face.
Chatter amongst the birds and squirrels,
A stranger has come to their secret place!
In a forest, green and bright
Humming a song, a bounce in each step-
She absorbs the sounds of nature's life.
The tip tap of skittish residents ahead.
"There is no need to run away,
Though I imagine many a times you've heard that said.
I come from a far off place, but I am no stranger."
A smile brightens her eyes wild with mischief.
"I have spent a great deal with cousins of yours,
Are there any faeries near, have you any songs?
Would you care to listen, as I have learned a ton."
She chuckles to herself and wanders along,
Ignoring the whispers of bushytailed admirers.
"What a lovely little home you all share-
I hope you'll welcome me into it.
I come from a place both dark and dreary,
Vines coil paths, cold chills the air
And through a thick smog red eyes glare.
But...
There are hidden treats in darkness, you know.
I've seen the most lovely things beyond
Elder trees and very shy fog.
And eyes growing red - a handy little trick
When playing hide and seek within it.
But this I am quite new to, yes.
I've never seen a place so green and so young,
Your beauty dances in the rays of sun
Flittering through leaves of trees having fun.
The very air tickles, invites me to stay...
I wonder if any secrets remain
When the beauty is so open and ready to play.
I look forward to - Oh is that a soft hum?
Do my clever ears, hear the beats of small wings?
Little faeries, little faeries, where are you hiding?
I only have a few minutes before Father comes calling-
Not an ounce of adventure in his old bones, I tell you.
Back home he always sent guards to ruin my run.
But let us play, little dearies, let us carry on,
A secret forest game between beams of warm sun."
She snickers through a promise and chases fond.
In a forest green and bright, full of youthful sigh
New adventures are sure to come alive!
