Sunday afternoon
With a glass of wine in my hand and the crackle of vinyl in the background;
I sit in your shade.
intoxicated by your beauty;
the wine,
and yesterday's melody.
Your spiked tops pierce the bright blue sky.
I am in awe of your majesty,
humbled by your grander.
My irrelevance exposed.
I am as I am beneath your branches.
I say,
“I wish I could be your voice;
your advocate,
your champion.”
But you laugh at me.
You see that even my soap box is of your flesh,
and my words become moot offerings
I am as I am.
Born of the wrong tribe,
I am guilty at birth.
nursed by a gilded paradigm,
I sit in your shade
intoxicated by your beauty
I turn the record
and pour another glass.
Sunday afternoon

Re: Sunday afternoon
I really had fun reading this. I liked how this is appreciative of nature, not in the typical tree hugging way. You are actually almost having a date with this tree. That is dedication. I love the underlying fun tone and appreciated this very much.

Re: Sunday afternoon
I adore the atmosphere of this; that lazy, wistful and serene philosophis'in beneath the boughs, marveling at the beauty of nature around you and pondering your own smallness in the shadow of it. There is a quiet sadness, but also tranquility. It is not unlike watching a beautiful woman who once loved you sing, knowing that it is the closest you two will ever be again - yet delighting in the song anyway. I love it.

Re: Sunday afternoon
The relationship of the narrator and his shade tree was refreshingl
So appreciative of this special spot where Narrator can drink a glass of wine, listen to his music and relax in the shade, makes Narrator wish he could do something for his tree. Congratulations on the TPS Spotlight.
