I (w)rote this when I was sixteen…I post it now because I still love it, and my first post of 2013 on TPS was written just before…these are lyrics and memoirs I will never forget. In the words of Ozzy Osbourne: Rock 'n Roll!!!
“Silent Scream”
Lick my wounds I’m bleeding for the fire
Nightly worship at the altar of flames
A penitent stare in blood lust desire
A streak of deception in a mindless game
Terror rises…
Circular flight of the one winged sparrow
Aging crisis…
Praying for the light upon the death of the Pharaoh
Search your thoughts down to the core
Is peace the answer for one another
Excuse my frame of mind…You’ve got a blood painted door
Do you think Hell’s gonna freeze over
Hey preacher…It’s driving me insane
This collision with society is shredding out the pain
Yeah, listen up preacher…Stop tearing at the seams
Your plan of intrusion broke the silent scream
…Hear my silent scream
Catch the sound raging through my ears
Face the thunder cause rain prolongs the tears
All you want is everything you see
Just remember what you need…Cause you know how to bleed
Mirror laced with time…Faces all the signs
Stare in the eyes…Disguise?
At least it never lies…
Hey Preacher it’s driving me insane
This collision with society is shredding out the pain
Listen up Preacher stop tearing at the seams
…Hear my silent scream

Re: Silent Scream
Hi Z and the middle stanza here was almost an OM piece. Much enjoyed the opening and some unique imagery you should be very proud of (still seeing that sparrow, circling). The blood painted door gives me two distinct visions to ponder, and the Preacher only made things worse apparently - cheers!

Re: Silent Scream
I like the rawness of this poem. Much of that rawness comes from the direct language you used, but you also had many compelling images in the poem. Your use of fire was vivid, and actually, quite frightening, which to me means it worked. Very powerful writing. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you dwells, David, and Bay for your insightful responses and personal connectivity with this (w)rite that I penned roughly 26 years ago. I will never forget those adolescent days of being in a band and playing the basement circuit of my surrounding neighborhoods. Good times!
dwells, I don't recall ever listening to OM, but since you made reference to them, I will Youtube them for sure.

This is a very strong piece, imo. I could sense the anger while reading it. Thanks for sharing.

Zojourn - That was my initial reply a few months ago - it's the Open Mic Board here at TPS for performance poetry, spoken word, and extemporaneous pieces, cheers and let it all hang out!

'The circular flight of the one winged sparrow' was a powerful, thought provoking image. The 'silent scream' might be a little over used, but you caught the wow factor with 'Catch the sound raging through my ears'. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Silent Scream
I really like this poem, congratulations on your well-deserved Spotlight. I loved the way you wove together such a tapestry of arresting, dark images. It definitely sounds like the work of a very skilled 16 year old. Amazing.
