I too thought of the famous statue as well. Love the humor in this... with a touch of sadness that we can't always be what we aspire to be, if we try too hard. Just gotta let it flow naturally...

You are one of my favorite haiku writers here!

Rodin the statue, or Rodan the winged lizard? I never can tell.

Kidding aside, I'm with Jim on this. Clear mind would be very nice, or so I'm told -- although how can you tell if you've got it?

hmmm

Hi GS ... the allusion to Rodin's famous sculpture is striking in this piece. While "The Thinker" statue is quite small (but impressive), your senryu is huge with thoughts about having no thoughts and a very calm write.

Scathingly clever...it's a perfect accomplishment! And with the title, you've delivered the intended effect! Brilliant!

Sometimes wanting so badly to be/have/show something we want so desparately we find ourselves pretending it is so. A true Liars Club of souls. Convincing ourselves that, if we make all those around us believe it is true, then it is as good as if it truly were. Great piece and congratulations on the Spotlight. Very well deserved award.

So much info in three short lines. When I first saw this I remember saying how brilliant I thought it was, seems others feel the same way. This was bookmarked that day. Enjoy the spotlight, this piece of yours sure does deserve the shine of the bright light! -R xoxo

to me it was sorta ironic when I read the line "fingers on my chin" and noticed that was true.. we attempt to make ourselves comfortable when we are trying to give our best.. whatever we are doing, and although we don't always succeed, the fact we tried is worthy of a smile. Quite enjoyed, congrats.
