You won't receive anything from me,
So stare—I don't care.
Your visions are incomplete.
Go ahead and gossip down hallway stairs.

There are those who don't prefer to be free;
Society's chains to them are pleasant dreams.
I rather avoid the nightmarish scenes
Involving being tied to those called “family.”

Our definitions differ, Can't you see?
Nature's goal is to blossom, not to cease.
If a rose by the river is surrounded by weeds,
Should we let it wither because they all share leaves?

The last stanza is brilliant...great write

"I wouldn’t want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn’t want you to worry
That You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you"

I absolutely love this. I love the message of freedom and the musical quality of the words. This is a really great piece!

Eventually, I ventured into free verse.

I like the feel of objectivity and disconnection which gives a bit of a down beat tone in turn. The last stanza is good and carries this poem to another level, very well deserved spotlight!

A strong piece that reads well aloud, too. I usually pick out favorite lines to quote back, but in this case, I loved them all!

always, Cat

I too felt this to be a very powerful piece in term's of the depth of emotion the reader senses..."family" is tough to cope with and you have described it well with your choice of images...I found this to be so touching....There's no doubt that it deserves a Spotlight..CONGRATULATION'S! Musie

I like the clever turns of phrase in this one, as well as the use of a couple of metaphors and images to bring further life to the idea within. The theme of family expectation, and the differences between people linked by DNA, is explored in a creative way.
Plus, here's something freaky I've just noticed in this line - "If a rose by the river is surrounded by weeds" - the other two spotlights this week were a painting by RiverRose and a poem titled Weeds!
Congratulations on the spotlight.

I loved the idea behind the poem, as well as the analogy at the end. I enjoyed reading your poem very much.
