a field of holes
the forsaken evidence
of fortune hunters

Despoiling fields out of greed ... whether they be real or metaphoric, it happens all too often.

If at first you don't succeed, try second, third, or shortstop.

Hi entwife,

Great observation of a frantic time... people dropping everything to go seek their treasures in holes and in the rivers...

This also reminds me of the movie Holes where the villain secretly has teenagers dig holes in hopes to find a treasure, in the guise of teaching them "responsibility".

Nice haiku!

My mind created an almost cartoonish image from your words...then started to acquire grass, and mud, and stuff...I had fun reading this piece...thanks! - Dew

Excellent work, this is a snapshot of time which ponders much thought. I think the term "forsaken" is the pivot of this poem, which reveals the speakers view of things without forcing it upon the reader. It's rather symptomatic of humanity as a whole.
Congratulations on the Spotlight!

Strangely enough, this brought to mind the ruins of great cities that fell due to greed. So many spend their lives searching for that get rich quick scheme or trying to climb so high that they forget the things that are most important. Gold cannot fill the holes left wanting in a person's life. Great Spotlight and congrats!
