Fall's Allegiance

Post by Whiskurz » May 3rd, 2012, 4:20 pm

Autumn leaves dance in the wind
As its breath awakens the trees
The limbs tremble in defiance
As they try to resist the breeze

The trees shiver in the cool morning air
As the dew gives way to the frost
They know their armor will soon be gone
For all of their leaves will be lost

Winter stands ready to enter the stage
And for Autumn to relinquish its hold
It's time for Winter to abandon its slumber
And Autumn must welcome the cold

Winter demands Fall's allegiance
Like a General shouting commands
Autumn must follow its orders
For the time of change is at hand

Winter's cold winds show restraint
As Autumn surrenders in shame
The trees bow down in silence
With only Winter to blame

Winter takes its rightful place
'Til Spring revenges Fall's death
But Winter will battle until the end
'Til it breathes its final breath

Wow, whisk...this was just brilliant! I loved the olympian life you gave to the seasons! I was thoroughly enmeshed in your trap! Just amazed by what you conjured here...Dew

Whiskie, this is a grand piece about my favorite season.
You have captured the sense of the season and given it a very artistic spin.

thanks for this brother.

Hi, I admire the progression of this, you follow the change of the seasons in an enjoyably creative way and it all flows together smoothly.

It's interesting how each season exists within the next. Like autumn persists even when winter has its icy grip on the landscape; a few brown leaves clinging to a branch or swirling in a dirt devil in a cold corner of a courtyard...they persist until spring sometimes when the change of season allows autumn's soul to rest finally.

well deserved spotlight...thanks for making me think, whisk

What I loved here was the beautiful imagery invoked by each stanza, as I felt Autumn's valiant fight against the encroaching Winter, only to submit in the end to the inevitable, as Winter will eventually be vanquished by the approach of Spring. I love poems that personify the seasons, and this is a real gem! Very well done, Whisk, my felicitations on this piece achieving its rightful place in the Spotlight.

There was a steady beat playing in my head, as I read through. I could picture the seasons marching in time to nature's cadence. You did a brilliant job of shining new light on nature's undying cycle of seasons, by comparing it to war.

The personification of elements of nature is always a pleasing element to any poem for me, and it helps to enhance the sense of battle between the seasons in this poem.
Congratulations on the spotlight.
