Love in Time (shape palindrome)

Post by Dew » July 4th, 2013, 9:59 am

Time, end my wandering
Quitting lovers
Leaving friends
Hopes challenge belief
and change
everything
that is
LOVE
Is that
everything?
Change and
belief challenge hopes
Friends leaving
Lovers quitting
Wandering my end...time

Never saw or heard of this form before, but so glad I have now, thanks to your marvelous example, flows
perfectly and mirrored with grace, a pleasure to read,

You have really raised the bar with this one, I think a palindrome is hard enough to write without adding a further constraint of making it into a shape piece too! While the hourglass shape is impressive, it's the finesse of the palindrome which makes this such an outstanding piece. The way the context is a polar opposite on the switch must be fiendishly difficult to construct, especially as it reads so logical and smooth either way.
This is so, so good!

I agree this is special, the form in itself allows the reader an element of reflection while considering the reversed impact and change in meaning and at that point one realises how each word carried individual weight in the set up. While I shan't be trying this anytime soon I am mightily impressed mx

Some Form poems gonna complicate my life, just like this one! lol.
This is for me, a really tough form, to have control over the sense of words, while reading the poem forwards and backwards, well that worth a "hats off" on its own, and then there's this hourglass shape, a double treat!
A gripping work, with double layers for the reader to skin the depth of this, as it holds piece from life and reality.
Great, great work!

Hello Dew

I just read the poem 1freesoul wrote that was inspired by this and I must say, I don’t blame 1freesoul for giving it a try, I may have to take a stab at it myself now….This is an interesting form and your work here is outstanding, brilliant writing!

skimmed through this one and thought not bad...until I started with love in
the middle and worked outwards - remarkable work, truly remarkable.

That's no mean feat , palindrome and shaped and still managing to tell a good tale. Great word choices and language throughout and you certainly didn't make it easy for yourself, sterling work and a very well deserved spotlight, well done, enjoy, Sean.

Great work, and congrats on the spotlight!

Such a fiendish form, I would imagine that it should come with a government health warning, I know I'd drive myself around the twist even attempting to create one!
A fine example of two forms in one swoop, and I think the key to any form like this is to make the words the priority and make everything else fall into shape around them, something you achieved with this for sure.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

Still trying to decide which half is more philosophically correct or personally intriguing - and it's a toss up, a true indication of excellence, kudos Dew and really enjoyed this, cheers!

Impressively clever, not only is the shape reflected but the meaning is reversed, from longing for things to end to wondering why they must, is there no chance of nothing more.

Very cool.
It's like poetic gymnastics.
I am not a poet gymnast.
I'm a word klutz.
I can't even juggle one ball.
Everything I spell backwards is backwards.
Clever never.
But
every
thing
I
say
rhymes
with
every
thing
I
see
every
thing
is
gone
If I step back far enough.
Magic.
