Amanda's Song

Post by Zimmerman » December 2nd, 2013, 6:26 pm

Babe I know you don't really need anything
But I thought I might ask anyway
and babe I know you don't really want anyone
But I thought I might try anyway
You really had me put off by the way you said goodbye
but babe, oh babe, it's okay
You don't really have to say anything
Someday if you need, I'll be here.

Put your cards away,
the game's already played,
I saw that ace of spades
in your coat
I'm sorry for the price
You set so high and dry
But I knew that the dice
were never true

I wish that I could kiss you, oh I wish that I could kiss you
But I think that that would take the night away
I haven't got to bed yet and I'd really like some sleep
Please let me drift the night away
You really have me longing for the way you used to smile
But babe, oh babe, it's okay
I don't really even want that anymore
I hope that someday if I need, you'll be there.

The man in the blue shirt
who I hope that you won't hurt
Is that how you divert
those waterways
You can see him smile
When he mentions your arrival
He doesn't need a trial
for to fear

Babe I know you won't really ever need anything
At least never from me anyway
And babe I know you won't really ever want anyone
Long as they've got anything to say
You really had me put on by the way you said hello
And babe, oh babe, it's okay
You don't really need to apologize to me
It was worth it just to see the way you smile.

That's really a beautiful lyrics, bittersweet yes, but I so love the way this was put, the reversion in the verses, the heartfelt feelings that were expressed here, regardless of what's happening "It was worth it just to see the way you smile." that's really heartfelt!
Very nice song!

"You really had me put on by the way you said hello
And babe, oh babe, it's okay
You don't really need to apologize to me

A really nice ballad style of song here, there is a bittersweet element that Sasha mentioned which I picked up on too, and the singer's devotion holds out, managing to convey romantic desire with more platonic emotions too.
You managed to convey a melody though your words alone, which is always an impressive feat.

Very sweet and loving. Bittersweet for sure, but the subject also seems incredibly understanding of the person they're missing, and that really spoke to me. It's a bittersweet situation by nature but the subject doesn't seem bitter at all. More accepting of the nature of the object of their affection. Very well done, great imagery.

-Muse of Tears

I let the sun on my skin.
Pretend I don't burn
I'm not burning here.
I just lay ash
On my eyelids,
And rub it deep into my
Bones.
