When a man's an empty kettle
He should be on his mettle
And yet I'm torn apart
Just because I'm presumin'
That I could be a human
If I only had a heart...

Yeah but our heart is like a tap......Beneath a running tap , if there is nothing to catch the gushing water , the water goes waste.....Same is the heart ! GREAT imagery !

lovely sentiment. Thank you.

If at first you don't succeed, try second, third, or shortstop.

I guess if there's heartbeat there is still hope to mend the broken thing. Your poem carries a good message.

This brings clockwork imagery, particularly perhaps a grandfather clock... even though it is grand and old, it will still tick.

I am delighted to know that some are still enjoying this poem. (c=

For those who are interested, I found a song that musically describes the image of these words. I first found it at the end of the movie, Seven Pounds. In that setting, it was profound to find, like hearing an echo of myself in someone else. Even aside from that, the song is still uncanny. Hope you enjoy this: Ennio Morricone - The Crisis

Great advice - although not always the easiest to follow. Congrats on your spotlight.

Congratulations, and good advice in your Haiku. Sometimes we need a nudge to reflect on the plusses in our lives. Thanks :)

I like how the title is the end word in each line.
There is a strong sense of hope in your words - congrats on the light :thumb:

This was beautiful.
No matter how broken the heart is: As long as the heart beats, it still could beat for love
Excellent!

It is an honor to have my simple words shown here, and on Valentine's day no less. Is it uncanny that when I wrote this, many years ago, that such a theme was mingled in the story of how I found these words? This poem, this day.. you have given me a special moment that I will treasure.

So,

Thank you, inflames, for your kind words and all you do for the site. I know what it's like to run a forum and all the work it takes, I must say, the TPS mod team (including you) handles it beautifully. You are the ones who really deserve the spotlight, but I've watched you all humbly work from the shadows week by week. You have my admiration and respect.

Hey, Mollie, thank you. I am glad you can see something positive in my words. That bears meaning to me.

Aha! Jason, you caught it. I originally didn't title this when I wrote it (I think, in 2008ish) but when I posted it here "untitled haiku" just doesn't sound very good, eh? Hehe. Thank you for your words.

Forestdawn, thank you for sharing that precious sentiment. It is good to see how others see this, as the words appeared very different to me when I wrote them.

Heya, Mr. Dreams, I am glad that a poet of your caliber has been pleased by what I wrote. Thank you. (p.s. I love how you are actually using your signature as a signature, classy move!)

this reminds me of the impulse i had when i was reading your post in the confession thread to reply with simply 'and the trees still move in the wind.' i wrote something else instead but i believe we are thinking along similar lines. really great piece. manages to give the quality of patience a momentary rest in the formless eternity of essential being. when any art does this, it is very high and causes the vibration of all to raise up in loving kindness.

this is like, just my opinion, man ;)
