Desert Early Morning

Post by mikecaalaska » February 3rd, 2015, 10:20 am

Awaken in the early morning,
Dawn comes in an hour,
Mind starts with a blank canvas,
Look in the bathroom mirror as I prepare to start a day,
My dark blue eyes blink, is this me?

Close my eyes once more then look,
Peppered stubble on my face,
A bristly mustache with shades of salt and pepper,
Hair disheveled and grey,
A splash of water -not yet awake!

Open the door to the yard,
A few stars still sprinkled the desert sky,
Crescent moon lingering and soon to be gobbled up by daylight,
A scent from yesterday’s rain lingers in the air,
Chi-ca-go call of a Gambles Quail in the distance breaks the silence,
Gee’s it is morning again,
Rubbing my eyes, almost awake.

Ten steps away- the waters of the jacuzzi,
Open the cover, step in,
Feels invigorating to my body,
Soaking for a few minutes,
No white caps despite a cool northerly wind,
Darn, I am awake.

The sun is in our heart,
the moon is in our soul,
each day may change,
am just hoping to be here, for awhile,
for each sunrise and sunset.

I like the analysis you have of your own words here, a dream most succumbing to how happy it truly seems you are in this dream state and prepared to get up and start a new day.

Seems as if you hate getting up in the morning almost as badly as I do. Enjoyed.

Many thanks Louise and Elm46. The morning comes, no matter what - I try to face each day with a good thought.

After years of working, raising my family, and living in the Bay Area, I may have idealized the quiet and space of your desert early morning, especially when you write, 'Darn, I'm awake.'
I'm glad you say, '- I try to face each day with a good thought.' You did make sure to wake up with the hope
.. to be here, for awhile,
for each sunrise and sunset.

I dislike being awake sometimes. Dreams can be better, and sometimes awake is hard to face. Congrats on your spotlight!
