Astraea

Post by harvestmoon » July 22nd, 2016, 1:12 pm

I felt Fall in the open windows,
the breath of putting your hair up
with long pins
when your neck was dry.

The long curtain of your arm
made a shadow covering over yourself--
it was golden
into the whey and down,
your eyes umber in the lamplight,
the light of your dressing table.

You are the cool before the rain
and I’ll wait my turn
to wrap these words,
too heavy weighing
on a light frame.

Because into the bine and soon
the stars will fight for you in heaven,
taking you into the night
to tangle your hair
in the paper lantern of the moon.

Over and alone, Winter comes.
Birds on the horizon
up and away,
their song in the garden,
their clouds disappearing,
and I pause,
listening.

"to tangle your hair
in the paper lantern of the moon."
Absolutely love that line!
Gorgeous imagery and a splendid write!

I agree with Ona, that was such a masterful line, but the whole poem is delightful. Good work!

that was beautiful. I felt that it was about lost, but more so a tribute of someone quite special.
your word choices were very appealing to me.
I loved it.

This poem is like sinking into a hot bath after coming out of the cold--I feel the extremes of both states (cold and hot) for a moment before settling into the warmth. Likewise, this poem made me feel both a sense of anticipation and regret, as if I were looking forward to something that made me deeply sad. What a wonderful accomplishment!

Best,
Dan N.

A fab poem. The winter comes again ... One observes while delving in beauty. Nice.

So beautiful! I was lost in the imagery! Its like a lullaby, a fairytale and a love song all rolled into one brilliantly executed poem.

“I turned silences and nights into words. What was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.” ― Arthur Rimbaud,
