Brown Eyes

Post by Zombie » January 15th, 2018, 1:58 pm

You think I need paintbrushes
to color empty easels
or records to break
over lit fireplaces
Something more than promises
that can't be filled
phrases uttered under the breath

I found my worst night
coloring in the lines of messy lies
and bathing in a vat of chemicals
that couldn't even scratch the surface
But your words cut through every bone
slicing their way to thinning marrow
that melted at their touch
You couldn't melt me
too many layers kept us apart
too many looks kept us together

I found my best night
listening to a simple sentece
and scratching the walls
They held so much noise
I couldn't hear you
too many bass notes
too many brown eyes

"It's marrow without bone to live in a house with no home
Where the son is the darkest seed, he crawls with the curs in the weeds."

The closing of the second stanza gives the reader a clue as to the relationship while the closing has an almost bittersweet and irrevocable summary of finality perhaps. Well done Zom, and cheers! - Dan
