A Call of Silence
This voice, where is it?
A voice that toiled like a bell amidst the cars and the chattering thunder
That rang through our hearts
Like a lantern burning in the night
That golden glow the radiance
Of idealism, of moonbeams
And wished upon rainbows
A cry that would not be silenced caught up and carried
Until it was not one
But a hundred and one, a thousand
Booming together cornucopia of cries
Unsilenceable
This voice, I hear it.
I see it
Tapping and clicking a tumultuous clatter
not of reindeer or spindly legs crawling in the night
This voice, larger
Growing
And growing
Louder
And louder
As fingers pound harder
And shutters flicker louder
As blue-birds perch not in hundreds
Or thousands but in millions
Of windows looking up at us
As we look out at them
Not from our houses
But from the safety of our minds
On the uncertainty of our streets
You too are there
The 1 and a millionth
Voice screaming in silence
Yet Powerful
beyond Their belief.
(probably could have gone to open mic.)
A Call of Silence (is anything but)

But, what was the message, of these countless voices? It can be anything, or everything. All the injustice, all the inequality of lives lived and lost. We need to know, so we can join the throngs and speak together, in unison, and proclaim our plight.

"Spindly legs crawling" gives me an almost insect like aural sensation; as a palmetto bug bouncing off the walls at midnight, during a long, hot August night. Looking for a mate. Thanks for some unusual and thought provoking images Gal and welcome to TPS! The voices are indeed legion in our minds.

Like dwells, I was really struck by the phrase "spindly legs" - I, however, thought of spiders, and the chills from that imagery carried me through the piece as the voices in the poem swelled in their strength (if not sound)... Much enjoyed the read!
