Alaska

Post by Kahmielyun » February 28th, 2019, 5:11 am

he sees Alaska
deep in her eyes
frozen by arctic
winds with chilled-shock
icicles under
pupils from frost
tundra-filled-hearts
make the northern lights
color the atmosphere with the night
silence is telling time to slow down
as this cold desert absorbs all sound
lips are then fastened by lucid ice
lost in her caverns
of opal-white
with frigid darkness
and endless depths
that show the glacial
will shift their breath
and blend the clouds
that are crystallized

i knew this land somehow, but travelled to the east instead. alaska has gold, oil and wolves, siberia has dinosaurs. the difference is not important in the fearful way. We live on one world and the variances of landscape is beautiful and relieving for both traveller and home-stayer. God bless!

Very nice flow/rhythm. I am one happy penguin! Who would have thought that cold Alaska can melt ones heart with warm beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Your words kept drawing my eyes downward through the images, with the short lines and connected flow where you show us the landscape.
"silence is telling time to slow down
as this cold desert absorbs all sound"
I absolutely love it. There's something so special about the surreal, outside-of-time feeling of the sound-eating snow.

I love this! It says so much, and paints such a vivid picture. Well done!

Alaska. Need I say more? Still, You did, with this fine poem. Are cold and warm in competition? Is there a fire that could ignite Alaska? If there is, I don' t want to know about it. Thanks for the read.

The silence brought back the memory of a Texan ice storm that brought sound back with the cracking of trees. It was a one time experience, Your poem was a bountiful bouquet of images and word play. The long /i/ sounds in eyes, ice, and crystalized are examples of your word choices.
