The Mountain Saga

Post by Simran » June 18th, 2019, 6:17 am

Leaving the lands behind
As we drove onto the curvy hills,
The excitement grew manifold
Just thinking about the imminent thrills

Beckoning, like every year,
Were the mountains, glorious and majestic,
The meandering rivers,the tall trees,
The whole ambience, so artistic

Sitting in my balcony
Of the room with a mesmerising view,
I knew I would fall in love
Once again with nature, sipping my brew

And the inevitable happened.....

The gorgeous, colossal mountains
Cast a spell on my pantheist soul;
As I breathed in the pure air
With the scent of pines, I felt whole

Far away, though an intrusion,
A train crawled through like a serpent;
And the houses,though far and few,
Looked so peaceful, so content

I could hear various birds and insects
As if trying to assert their existence ;
Drowned in the cacophony of city lives
Is whose voice, despite insistence

The sun was acting naughty too
From behind the clouds, playing peek a boo
Gently kissing the slopes with golden rays
And then disappearing, leaving no clue

No less charming was the sunset
With hues of orange filling the sky
And slowly the mountains transformed
Donning a new avatar, bidding the sun goodbye

By the night, the tables turned
And the gigantic mountains lost their glory;
Spooky,eerie, intimidating was the effect
I could've weaved many a horror story

The dark and gloomy slopes
Seemed to be haunted and still
As if hiding in their darkness
Many a surprise to kill

The inhabited ones, though, presented
A picturesque sight to the eye
With lights twinkling all over
Like a thousand stars in the sky

I was in awe yet again
Of nature and its might
Of the mountains' glory by the day
And the saga by the night

Looking forward to a beautiful beginning
Of another day,another promising sunrise
I drifted into slumber with
A thousand dreams in my hungry eyes

Such an epic poem you have written, one of Tolkien proportions! I enjoyed every word, your images and rhymes are quite enticing, they coaxed me willingly along with beauty and adventure. The different rhyme pattern in stanza 7 is a pleasant surprise, it adds to the enjoyment of the piece, as does the changing tone as night falls. Excellent work!

Beautifully composed descriptive imagery, and a masterful use of language; creatively expressed and most delightful-- much enjoyed.

Very much enjoyed. I suppose while you were in the mountain you just melt as one with nature. Looking back, there are lot happening. Or... that's just my imagination. Very much enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
