Bread and Circuses

Post by GlobeTrotterMax » August 18th, 2020, 5:39 pm

Be born, human, with dignity and purpose
May you have nourishing bread, and a joyous circus
Happiness so deep, reality dare not peep
Until the Dear Leader demands

Tell me, citizen, tell me what your worth is
Tell me fast, tell me now, lest I judge you worthless
Deception so deep, makes resurrection creep
Further into the sand

Hear me, slave, may you enjoy your service
It keeps at bay the chaos lurking beneath society’s surface
Subservience so deep, makes better angels weep
For the fate of this land

Rise now, zombie, so your hoard may hurt us
Though we both roam the same decrepit Earth that birthed us
Your decay is so deep, ours just began to seep
Into our bible-laced hands

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

Nice job Max, loved the rhyming not just in the sonnets but the poem as a whole. lingering in these words I get an impression of a gravity such as that in quicksand funneling down into an abyss consuming all but wisdom. A nice treat for all of us seeking the sweetness of a lifesaver. BRAVO! - Falstaff.

Welcome GTM and a fine rendition of the tap dance that we all perform on our little stages of life. I hear there will be plenty of cake soon. Cheers! - Dan

Thanks, Globe T. Slavery is the fate of some. One must rise to be free. But how?
