Music City Blues (Moonlight Lady)

Post by Zimmerman » November 29th, 2013, 11:43 pm

When I wake up in the morning,
it isn’t you that’s on my mind.

It’s the place you lived inside my chest,

but that’s over and besides,

You weren’t the best of visitors

and I wasn’t the best host.

Nothing really could’ve happened

that wouldn’t hurt us both.

Moonlight lady look at me,

I’ve left your wayward cage.
There’s something I’m not telling you

and there’s something you won’t say.
Don’t ask me why or say goodbye,

I don’t think that we should speak.

It’s not that I don’t miss you,

just not the way you think.

I know the times are changing,

though you likely aren’t upset.

Just longing for the feeling

of some stranger that you’ve met.

The one way train you’re riding now

is different than before

Just don’t blame the bad things

on your walking out the door.

The flowers of the city,

were once scaling the walls,

Are over and exhausted,

for we didn’t water them at all.

Your handful of rain and sleet
is useless to you and,
I think the chance that we would meet

doesn’t matter much to stand.

I actually would love to hear this; it has an elegant flow, a story of two to tell and for some people to relate as well. Time changes us, and I think we'll sing a different song each time.
Much enjoyed!

Hey,

I have just read your work.
Nice flowing, rhythmic construction.
