Midnight 16 "The Perfect Cannonball"

Post by lastlifedreamer » April 15th, 2015, 11:52 am

He once held the world by a thread
Somehow he always found a way to walk away
Taking his pain with him like an armor
Clutching to every emotion that still resonated from his younger days
Before the static of this now constantly moving world
There were only footsteps…distant sounds of the untouched
So rare these days…in this place…to find that disconnect
Someday it simply may not exist
It was those late night walks that calmed the veins
Guitar always slung low over the shoulders
Ever present in case he needed to break glass
And when the moon captured the sky
The waves crested over the shores erasing the memory of each day
That is the moment his heart stopped trying to understand
His faith in a spirit so strong that even in the most trying times….
His dreams found their way to the surface of the awakened
And he sang through their darkness
Oblivious to the ominous and angry clouds that chased him like a dog to hare
He accepted their vengeance like a scorned brother
Never wincing for even a moment as the cold was drawn over his weathered skin
Feeling the tear within as each stab of karma paid its due
For all the years of broken hearts left behind he knew would someday return their reflection
Toes now dug into the sands of glass
Absorbing their innocent and painful love that no one could disregard or misunderstand
He accepted his fate knowing a blind angel was bound to misstep
A castle all these years built but never given a purpose
Showed its internal weakness down to its very crimson element
And yet…It truly was an invitation
For this castle was in need of repair and only the most convincing of cannonballs are allowed to enter
And so she did…
To protect is to awaken
To awaken is to show weakness
To trust is to take that carnal hit
And rebuild again and again
That is the purest moment a heart can ever feel
His castle may never stand as tall as it just had
But it will become eternally stronger because an angel willed it to be so

I really like this, especially the ending. There are some wonderful lines throughout. Much enjoyed reading!

I enjoyed "pain like an armor"...we do sometimes carry pain around to shield us from hope and the possibility of more disappointment. Also liked "vengeance like a scorned brother"...no one can hurt us like someone who knows us too well. Nice! -dew
