Never Loved Before

Post by ThePoetryQueen » September 9th, 2012, 5:31 pm

This may be hard to believe
Or easy to see?
I never loved before
How can that be?

I write about love
How it has the power to devour
If I never loved before
How do I know about this unwanted desire?

Maybe I heard too many stories
About this cursed emotion
Will I ever experience it myself,
And give my life in devotion?

Or maybe in another life time
I experienced it all too well
A love that felt like heaven
Turned out to be hell

From somewhere, somehow
These feelings spills out
But where did they come from?
And who are they about?

"Who am I, and who will I become?", is the question. And through my writings, I hope to find the answers.

I enjoyed this so much...with an almost voyeuristic (not in the perverse sense!) satisfaction...to wonder at the early thoughts on love...to remember, perhaps rekindle my own innocence! So interesting! - Dew

Great write. I enjoyed the flow from this
very much along the reminding up's and
downs of love.

This is very interesting! Perhaps because being without love can inspire intensely romantic, longing feelings? Love makes people dreamers, even those who have experienced unfulfilled amounts of it, or even those who have experienced none at all. Perhaps as a poet, you understand emotions very well, even ones you have little experience with? Whatever the answer(s), your questions and your reflections of where your romantic inspiration may have come from made for very nice writing.

I used to think like this up until my very recent experience of love and loss
Nice write

"I wouldn’t want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn’t want you to worry
That You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you"

There's much more to this than wondering if what you think something is that you've never experienced is really the way you think it is. There's the mystery of how you know these things that you're unsure of interpreting correctly, and also the question of if the knowledge does come from some alternate life, what happened and why? That could be an interesting continuation of this, but that's totally up to you. Great job though.

It is so easy to see why this was spotlighted. It's wonderfully written what with the rhythm and rhyme scheme it flow's so well....And then the content of course done with great presence of thought, I think many could identify with....I enjoyed this a lot...CONGRALATION'S! Musie

The great conundrum of life - what is love? Is it devotion, desire, or a fictional euphemism. It's a word that has become so overused, that it can be there without us recognising it. But you obviously love poetry - so all is not lost.
Lecture over. It was a thought provoking poem that justifies further reading. - hence the Spotlight. Congratulations .

That's really an intriguing topic!!
And even it can be related to not only love, but any other sentiments and feelings you haven't experienced, yet deep down inside, your mind nudges your pen to write about.
Very nicely done, with very good rhyming and rhythm. Congrats on the Spotlight!

The theme of this should definitely appeal to all poets - I wonder how many of us write about emotions we've never truly experienced, yet have to live them through our words?
A very open and honest write, with nice form and the most pressing of all questions saved until last.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

This piece had such a lovely gentle quality about it, and I read it at the perfect time, so I thank you for that!
I agree with those before me, a topic I haven't thought much about myself for a long time until I read your piece. It was very refreshing. My congratulations on the spotlight! Very much well deserved...

Very good one, loved the topic. Writing about something that you haven't lived through can always be a little challenging, but then I think that's when creative thinking comes in. Very thought-provoking, and I salute you for making this great poem!
