Prom Night '58*

Post by moe » September 11th, 2012, 10:36 pm

A necklace of stars.
A cameo moon.
Mist rising from
a park lagoon.

A freckled girl,
the velvet night...
her hair bright copper
her lips, full, ripe!

A silver lattice
reflects in her eyes...
eyes of amethyst
beneath purple-pearl skies.

She stands waiting... for what?
A kiss?... Do you dare...?
What if...?

Your heart's a-tremble
your breath scarce...
Don't let the moment pass!

You step closer, lips collide
teeth clash, braces lock,
breath comes fast...

blood sings, knees... solid jelly
distant, faint, the
chimes from a far-off belfry.

WOW!... What a girl!
eyes unfocused...
brain in a whirl...
imagine what if...NO!

A decent boy
doesn't think that way.
If he does there's Hell to pay!

Wow...what a great first read today...can't believe I'm first! My heart stammered in the moment you created...almost wanted to be young again. Missed my prom, but my innocence was long gone before that so there was no magic to have. Wonderful write moe...you have the heart of cyrano. - Dew

Moe,

It's been a while since I read you! Love, love this piece. So innocent and free and full of promise. Embarking on those teenage years where life is new and exciting. A carefree piece that pulled me in and never let go.
Great piece mon amie.

This is just so sweet and lovely. My prom was not nearly so romantic. You capture that youthful anxiety quite wonderfully.

Thanks so much for sharing.

That is absolutely lovely. And a well deserved spotlight.
I loved how you portrayed the innocence of a young girl. Beautiful.

All that I can say is 'Wow' Moe. Great poem and wonderful imagery. Very expressive and poetically lucid. It was truly a pleasure to read. Thanks for posting.

Oh, yeah! You brought back memories. I did attend the prom in 58* and I am still married to the guy! Congratulations on the TPS Spotlight.
