Die in the Past, Love in the Future
Post
by ladymaybebaby » April 29th, 2012, 8:22 pm
Years wander past, stealing love’s song-
Distance closes in, an embrace now gone;
Eyes empty of a slight flash of my soul,
Each day masked by pain, devouring me whole.
Wary of monsters seething under our bed-
Frozen with fear of losing my man I wed;
Each on the brink of tossing it all away,
Should I flee, or face the music and stay?
Empty and full of memories are all I know-
Flash on images of love’s sultry glow;
Mourn grieving aches, pray for renewing rains,
Wrap me in your arms, show me love remains.
Join me under the glint of a rebel moon-
Meet me “over the rainbow” this afternoon;
Breathe simply red against my neck,
Refusing to be a cautionary tale in a lover’s wreck.

This poem reminds me of something that Emily Dickinson might write, only more modern.

Hello ladymaybebaby,
Warmest congrats on the spotlight.
Your four-quatrain poem and its rhyming couplets speak with an eloquently described yearning. I don't believe anyone truly wants to be alone, well, not for long anyway. "No man is an island,
Entire of itself.", as an insightful 'father of metaphysical poetry' (John Donne) said. Yes, the human condition with which we all contend renders relationships tricky, on occasion.
Thanks for the read.
Go well.

beautiful piece, much enjoyed
"I wouldn’t want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn’t want you to worry
That You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you"

Of all the fantastic poems that you write, I feel this one most deserves a spotlight.
Look at that, you have me writing in iambic pentameter couplets. I literally waxed poetic about one of your pieces.
Eventually, I ventured into free verse.

For You

From the sadness and questioning tone of the opening the narrative evolves into something so colourful and vibrant which doesn't lose the vulnerable edge. The tenderness of the diction is endearing, the gentle approach doesn't lack power, and the invitation of the ending is so sincere and warm that it is hard to resist and easy to admire.
Lovely work, congratulations on the spotlight.

I agree wholeheartedly, definitely deserving of a spotlight! This is a poem that voices what almost every married person either feels, has felt or will feel... and determines to never "be a cautionary tale in a lover’s wreck." Beautifully penned, thank you for sharing!
