Moonlight, slivered silver
upon white river sand;
here by crystal waters
I, enraptured stand.
There, the silver river
it's waters running deep.
Nearby sparkling fires
where River Naiads sleep.
Watching the stately progress
of stars across the sky;
I sit beside the river
on sand, silver-dyed.
Sounds, whispery footsteps
startle me from sleep.
I gaze into a Naiad's eyes
moonstone gray--- deep.
We build a small fire
from driftwood lying near.
We talk of all--- of nothing,
the moon highlights her hair.
Her face reflects the fire;
her eyes star-borne light.
A soft, silver image
in the star-filled summer night.
We listen to the silence,
watch the starry host;
hear the river's murmur
as it flows down to the coast.
Clouds on the horizon
shroud dawn's damask light.
I entreat her "stay";
she walks away,
into rain-gray twilight.
The river's bank stands empty.
Thunder rumbles in my ear.
What's this on my cheek I feel;
a raindrop---or a tear?
upon white river sand;
here by crystal waters
I, enraptured stand.
There, the silver river
it's waters running deep.

Re: Imagedry in Silver
I really like how you use the colour grey, or 'silver' throughout this piece. Did you mean 'imagery' in the title? Either way, the ethereal and graceful imagery your words built in this piece were lovely to imaine and absorb. A gentle piece of poetry, really a pleasure to read.

Re: Imagery in Silver
Did you maybe mean naiads? They're water sprites/nymphs in Greek myth. Anyway, you've outdone yourself again Moe. I was reading this, losing myself in the mythos but not becoming detached. It seemed real, as if I could just go out walking with a water spirit. Loved the fantasy.

Re: Imagery in Silver
As much as I love your other writing I believe you excel when you grace us with your fantasy pieces. This was soft and gentle, told a story, painted a picture and was just a real pleasure to read. Amazing xx

Re: Imagery in Silver
Hi, this is beautifully crafted, the imagery is clear and seductive and the tale flows smoothly, and that end was wonderfully bitter-sweet.

A true passionate tear jerker but what an adventure

tongue twister's.

Re: Imagery in Silver
Excellent piece my friend! I love this last stanza:
"The river's bank stands empty.
Thunder rumbles in my ear.
What's this on my cheek I feel;
a raindrop---or a tear?"
Such a perfect way to conclude this write! Thank you sharing!

Re: Imagery in Silver
Really liked the word choice in this. And really nice imagery too.
Didn't quite know where exactly where I was (I imagined it as a beach with a river-delta nearby) but it was really nice and wish I was there.

Loved this Moe. I was on a marvelous Fantasy trip with you, and it was wonderful. Excellent, Fantasy is your genre for sure. Not that you are a slouch in any other genre, just in Fantasy you are golden. Thanks.
