"Serenade Into November "

Serenade Into November

Tangerinepie

Surreptitiously .with the onset of a deeper chill,

Ablution fills each nude and barren crevice.

The preparation for first snowfall..filigreed flakes...

Interlopers on the last vestiges of autumn warmth.

Saunter into Thanksgiving with a cornucopia of bounty

The inception of a budding anthology suffuses the pores.

Dearest.. You bombard my cognizance with anticipation.

For I remember how you wove beaded corn

Into my hair, and kissed snowflakes from my eye lashes.

The littoral expanses you explored to gather driftwood

For evenings fireside,—you said “let me write a poem

Of winters icy manacles “..and I somnolent with silent longings

Waited with hot cocoa for you to write the panegyric.

You will dedicate this to the flame of our finest hour.

Each season resplendent with renewal,

Our lives too short to absorb the unspeakable beauty,

Gifts that remind us to embrace each day with robust energy.

Alas.. our overburdened senses can only wish for more time.

Sumptuous imagery here, and sumptuous word choice, I really admired the careful, considered way this is written. Well deserved spotlight.

I was a bit turned off by the line breaks, but I believe that your word choices helped greatly in enhancing this poem's amplitude. I especially liked the imagery of "filigreed flakes" and "winters icy manacles". This is a piece that easily defied the cliche aspects of seasonal poetry, and I applaud you for that.

Could have been been better crafted, in my opinion, but that's no matter...this poem was magnificent.

Although we've hit December now I think the symbolic and seasonal relevance of this extends beyond the specific month of the title, and the theme of readiness, reminiscence and romanticism also go beyond being "just" a nature poem. The imagery is very well crafted, I think it really emphasises the cosy feel between the lovers when set against a winter scene, and even though the final line held a slight feeling of time slipping by, I found this poem to be as warming as hot cocoa on an otherwise cold winter night.
Congratulations on the spotlight.
