Dancing down a skeletal vein
buoyant,bobbing,burlesque
evoking a response
untethered and free.
Humbly hewn from feather and fur
inadvertently alive.
To deceive your sole purpose
to call,to beckon,to tempt.
Just a glance from a piscine eye
and your job is done,
carry on downstream
carry on...

Humbly hewn from feather and fur

Re: dry fly
I loved thinking of the fly performing burlesque. Really well observed little poem. Oh, and "inadvertently alive" is quality.

Re: dry fly
Ah, a fisherman poet, has a dry fly ever been so poetically described? This is well written, I admired your word choice and your poem is fun, I feel you had fun writing it, it's such a playful poem.

Re: dry fly
I didn't get this the first time round and certainly didn't get the fishing association even with the hints throughout 'doh'! Now with a different head on I can safely say how much I like this and understand and admire your word choices, I imagine fishing and poetry go well together, meadow

Re: dry fly
Having been raised in the company of a Grandfather who was an avid fly-fisherman, DRY FLY, immediately brought him to mind. Your lovely work transported me to the trout streams of Northern Michigan, and I could feel my feet moving along the smooth river stones in the icy waters, trying to tempt and invite those rainbows and browns onto my line. Thank you for reminding me and for this lovely bit of nature. Gorgeous work.

Re: dry fly
yeah this is truly original - my buddies who fly fish alot would really appreciate this. you should see if you can submit this to a fly-tieing or fly fishing site - maybe even for a fly fishing calender? I think anyone involved in this sport will really appreciate your sentiments - respect

Re: dry fly
Jason,
I never could imagine such a wonderful poem could come from, of all things, a fishing lure! Another reason I continue my own interest in writing. The topics are endless. Very clever write, Jason. Love it.

I love this poem and its superhuman humble irony.

Re: dry fly
Once the line is cast, the fly comes to life an extension of the fisherman's will, point well made good job.

Re: dry fly
I really enjoyed this, could just picture the stream, and the fly it sure did come alive and caught my attention, what a beautiful picture and story you have here, reminded me of an old movie, I think it was called a river run through it, something like that, what a beautiful sport, thanks for sharing, may God bless

Re: dry fly
There was something very calming about this poem; I think the alliteration worked really well to execute a smooth-sounding flow of poem- an atmosphere of laid-back laziness- but contrasted with the rather playful and alive depiction of your 'bait' (dancing, buoyant, bobbing, burlesque). Really enjoyed this sweet little poem.

I really like this.
It has charm and elegance, and every word counts, there are no "filler" words.
Nice work, deserves to take a bow in the spotlight for sure.

Re: dry fly
A poem fit for a true fisherman! The movement of the prey, the tempting of the fish, and the essence of a river scene! Great stuff!

I always came up dry when I went fishing! Your poem gives hope and spreads patience to those amateurs who would otherwise give up! Great spotlight!
