Hi Joanne,

as writers, we are an interesting group.. our needs are very simple, a pen and paper.. yet our muse, the light we shine onto the words require very complex thoughts.. Some poems seem to form themselves, all we do is hold a pen, while other writes manage to stump us for years..

Your poem holds true the process of writing and I'm glad it made the spotlight. Best wishes,

~ Daniel

hi Joanne,
I always believed that poetry isn't something we write, rather it forms and comes to us, poetry happens as always. and all elements you take up here so perfect and indispensable. Just perfect descriptions, "dimly lit desk..." awesome alliteration. ;-)
and in such simplicity it forms itself, your poem here. nice to point sharp and a great tone. well deserved spotlight. congratulations. :-)
thank you for putting it out. :-)

snehal,
I appreciate your interest and kind thoughts regarding my work. I just think that had I not found TPS, how many wonderful people with whom I would not have crossed paths. This site and the members have inspired my writing in a way I cannot repay. Again, I thank-you, my friend.

My dear friend, Congrats on the spotlight, a true honor indeed. A very well conceived and delivered piece that, though simple, speaks volumes to the truth of it. So happy for you.

Sue,
I thank you so much for your continued following of my writings. As I said to another member, it is the comments from my TPS friends, such as you, that inspire me to keep writing. I never imagined that one of my creations would be on "The Spotlight". I am very honored that the TPS Administration selected it to be put there. I so appreciate your kind words, my friend.

Rassy 48.
A very internal poem that says so much, and as I read it I wondered if any poet is simple.A great poem that has an impact on our concepts of what poetry is..A wonderful spotlight choice..TY..Tangie.

Tangie,
Good point ... is "any poet simple"?. A concept which I did not consider when I was writing this. Again, one of the reasons I enjoy writing and reading poetry. The meaning or message truly is in the eyes of the reader. Thank-you so much for stopping by and your kind comments. Much appreciated.

I love the idea of a poets desk being their tomb. An amazingly dark image. Congrats on a well deserved spotlight!

I recall reading this, but sadly, didn't leave a comment.. Pleased you made the spotlight with this accurate and deserving piece. You paint an accurate picture of a gift/curse.
The words are already there so just let them out when they form lines in their own time.
Good luck,

dornicks

Dornicks,
Thanks for stopping back by and re-reading my creation. Your words are true of all of us who write. Nothing can be forced when it comes to writing , whether poetry, a novel, or whatever it might be. I appreciate your comments, my friend.

Flash without substance is easy. Writers often forget in the midst of their purple prose and flowery rhyme schemes that it is the message, not the medium, that actually matters. (And by god am I guilty as well...) This poem is a fine, fine testament to that very concept. I hope plenty of people on this site make an effort to read it and put its much needed lesson into practice. Congratulations.

You bring something irreplaceable to each and every day.
Or you used to anyway.
But this world couldn't hold you
And you slipped free
Yeah this world couldn't hold you
And you slipped free
Without me.

Wow, I am becoming so overwhelmed with how many of you have read and comment on such a simple (no pun intended) little poem. I guess, in some cases, your words are correct. I thank you so much for your stop and your comments.

That was quite jazzy, Razzy. It had a good beat and my mind could dance to it.

Anyway, I love this! I think many poets can relate to this. I love the simplicity of the words that has such impact, weaved with emotions and beautiful images.
Congrats Joanne on the deserved Spotlight!
