Believing Snowdrops, sonnet

Even, when in this frost-charred, earthen waste
that’s stirred by nothing but the blackbird’s wave
of wing, a dormant world that's death embraced,
my sister snowdrops rise from winter’s grave.
As fragile as a foetal thought, their skulls
shine soft as hope, symbolic in the gloom,
a sudden birth of unity annuls
what’s past, forgotten in each perfect bloom.
As myth recalls it was abandoned Eve*
whose cries attract an angels intervention,
and whether truth or fiction we believe
to suit our own belief and comprehension.
Now I’m no outcast Eve but have the scope
to think that when the snowdrops come, there’s hope.
*It is said that after Adam and Eve were driven out of the balmy, flower-bedecked Garden of Eden, Eve wept bitterly at her first sight of snow, whereupon an angel, taking pity on her, caught a snowflake in his hand, blew on it and transformed it into a snowdrop. The angel heartened Eve by telling her that the flower was a sign that spring and summer would come, and then departed, leaving behind a ring of snowdrops where he had stood.

Re: Believing Snowdrops, sonnet
This is really something. I like they way you've isolated a single moment out of historical lore and given it new breath, and of course it's well done weaving in a bit of reflection and application. I thought the first two quatrains were superb! Fantastic construction, and I also can't help thinking that this piece fits your username well.
Great job!

Re: Believing Snowdrops, sonnet
The lead in to the couplet is perfect, and without meaning this in any kind of disrespectful way about the rest of this poem, I feel like the poem is all about that couplet; the lines are so beautiful they needed, deserved, and received the lead-in to make them shine.
The octave is really, really great narrative writing, almost like a poem of its own, and the turn is a subtle but impactful switch to the current age, but the couplet took this poem from earth to the stratosphere.

Such an inspiring sonnet! Love the creative images and the transition in this, from shivery winter into promising spring. I too, fell in with the couplet, this line especially is a memrobale one to me "I’m no outcast Eve" suiting the theme perfectly, and the energy of new day, new hope, shines at the end through your words. As well, I love how this created an aura of little tale, spoken smoothly with elegance and grace, to wonderful ending. Oh, and I love the skulls/annuls rhyme.
Stellar work!

I cannot understand how I missed this when you first posted it.. I deserve a slap for that! Beautiful work Meadow. I can't comment on form, the sonnet still escapes my grasp, but it reads so smoothly and lets the reader just sink into the words. As Sasha says, the transition here is so palpable, you can feel it on your skin.. At least, I could.. Incredible work. Congrats on the Spotlight!

So eloquent, so lovely, as snowflakes melt upon the tongue, so your words melt upon the reader's mind. This is a sign of a true Goddess of words, and this is magnificent. How truthfully and utterly enchanted and envious I find myself. I shall have to do penitence for my envy indeed. LOL. Congratulations, dear, for this well deserving honor.

Meadow, this is amazing! I really enjoy the subject matter (thanks for the note) it's refreshing and it exposes a side of Eve little of us know about. Great writing like always

Ahh...so that is how it's done! You are really the master of this form of writing. The tale, told so beautifully, has been exposed with your gentle touch. Congratulations.

Re: Believing Snowdrops, sonnet
As long-standing fans of your sonnets already know, you make this form your own on a regular basis - however this one is extra-special. Like many of your supreme posts, the form is somewhat disguised and, without looking for it, easy to miss. Yet upon discovering how the form itself becomes part of the metaphor we realise how brilliant the poem is. The turn is so powerful and, as I already mentioned, builds into a resounding couplet.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

Ah Meadow. You have displayed your usual skill in producing another sonnet interpretation. The interruption of the "sentence" enhances the flow of thoughts, that lead the reader seamlessly from one mental image to another.
Greatly enjoyed and well worth its Spotlight.
