Zeus's Calamity

Post by rootbeer » January 24th, 2013, 3:05 pm

Look at you,
glowing upon a new day,
A Goddess left on earth in the wake of Zeus's calamity,
curing the once parched lands,
You are the temptation that no mortal can conjure,
so I stare,
lost in your ivory eyes,
knowing that you were meant for someone better then myself.

The perfect woman? I adore any mention to mythology, and this seems as though when Zeus fell this one lone perfect creature remained. You words read as if you are in awe of her charms and beauty...and sadly you feel you can in no way measure up to her perfection! I bit of deep longing in this piece, things just out of our reach.
A well penned piece, glad I came across this gem!

Hi. I felt this very much, maybe because you spoke for me in some way. I too loved the mythical references, giving those over-bearing emotions more credence and grandeur. A Goddess I am sure, and her beauty, sometimes, may even be enough, as long as her heart smiles, with or without you. Beautifully written and expressed, a gem.

Oh! Rootz! I think this tops the list of my favourites from you! AH! I just love it. For one, I'm a massive addict of Greek Mythology and I was excited to see where you were going to take this from the title. And I was completely taken by it. That gorgeous sense of longing, of love, of instant attraction and yet still having that lingering feeling that you're not enough for her. It's a stellar piece of poetry my friend. Colour me very impressed.

First off, wow that was the fastest I've ever had replies on my poems, thank you so much.

ladymaybebaby - I think every woman is the perfect woman in someone's eyes :D

Mythology was, is my favorite subject. Both Greek and Roman

Tufty - I think my shyness drives my poetry, and life, so i think it hits home in most of my love based poetry.

Lily - I'm glad you liked this. Its one of the harder forums to write in :D

Respectfully,
Rootbeer

The undertone of longing, angst and silent admiration forms a heady brew. Captured beautifully in a single verse. I enjoy your work Rootz. Congrats on the spotlight.

One short verse. A few well penned words. You bring us to a mixture of longing and hopelessness, of mere mortal and goddess who will never be together in the eyes of the writer. Though it has been many years, I too was enamored by the Greek/Roman Mythologies, but fear time has stolen a lot of them from my memory. Excellent write. Deserving of the spotlight!

Yay! *claps* I am so glad this was picked for Spotlight. I loved it the first time and I love it just as much now. You adopt my favourite theme/device for poetey, the greek myths, and do so in a unique and fresh kind of way. This definitely deserves its time in the Spotlight!

Ivory Eyes: Galatea was carved from ivory by Pygmalion, as a symbol of perfection, & probably subconciously supplied a little of your inspiration. this is joyful reading...

You all are too kind. Thank you so much my friends.

John- I think your right, because I do remember that story, how the statue came to life.

CONGRATULATIONS on the Spotlight rootbeer! There was no more perfect Title for this, it's truly jam packed with such a strong sense of loneliness and longing as many feel when envious of someone that they do not feel they measure up to or cannot garner the love they seek...Beautifully written..you have mad writing skill's my friend....Musie

As a fan of unrequited love, and love from a distance poetry, this struck a chord with me. I like seeing the sense of grandeur injected by a poet willing to put his subject matter up on a pedestal and play contented second fiddle to the person he admires. Within a relatively short poem I think you needed at least one line worth even more than the sum of its parts and, for me, that line was "(you), glowing upon a new day" - what a superb image!
Congratulations on the spotlight.

A beautiful package of poetry with such tender bittersweet emotions, and stunning choice of words!
I love it to bits. Congratulations on the deserved Spotlight!
