"Family Heirloom"

Post by Valentine » March 9th, 2013, 9:11 pm

'Family Heirloom'

It was a small old family heirloom,
Of value perhaps...only to me.
I found it in one of the rooms,
So small, it was hard to see.

Others had came and went;
And took what they could find.
All of any real value was sent
To others...with riches in mind.

I was the last to walk through,
The house...that once was home.
I had not come for treasures from you;
This was our family home that I did roam.

I looked at the walls of forgotten things,
Old clothing and old pictures as well.
Things that would no money bring;
Even in the big family yard sale.

Looking at your hanging clothes;
Old slippers and other finds.
With tears in my eyes... I arose,
To the mess...others had left behind.

Then looking through an old dresser drawer,
In an old yellow envelope lying there;
I found more than I was looking for,
Golden locks...of my own baby hair.

It was wrapped...so carefully,
And written was just one line;
This is my darling daughter's hair;
Isn't it...precious and fine.

This is a true story of when I lost my mom.

Valentine

A touching write. Often things we value the most turn out to be things of little or no monetary value, especially where love of family is concerned. Thanks for sharing this.

A very emotional poem. Often the things that mean the most to us are things that would have no value to someone else, but they are sacred nonetheless.

Thanks for sharing.

oh honey, my heart cries for you just reading this. Isn't it funny the things mothers keep? My own mother brought up alot of the stuff of mine that she had kept over the years and it was strange reading all of it and then going through it. All that stuff that gets passed down makes you feel like you carry the others with you.

Dearest Valentine, some people look for valuables but all you wanted was the value of memories. You are
a beautiful person for that. To find what you found is priceless. Thank you for sharing such a touching
and sad memory.

Beautiful. Brought back so many memories of my mothers passing. As a mother myself, I am always surprised by the things that are worthless to others yet are priceless to me. Thank you for sharing this with us.

hair loom ? :smile:
sometimes the greatest treasures come with little or no price tag...
A sentimental, heart warming piece - nicely done.
