Crucified Reality

Crucified Reality

When God asked – are you ready?
I said – no, I've things to do.

He sent me you.
And later he sent kids;
three,

the third one died
in a day, and an hour.

- Saw an eagle fly
unlike I’ve ever seen one before.
Powerful stokes of awesome wings
took him higher and higher and higher.
He climbed straight and true,
became a speck ,
flew out of sight,
left me standing humble,
consumed by the wonder of such a feat,
yet weakened in heart. . .
another child of God
had gone home.

Look up, Oh ye of the world,
and feel the breeze from his wings . . .

When God asked – are you ready?
I said – no, their pain is too great.

We aged,
way before our years,
when the war took our twins.

You withered
and I begged God to take me;
and he answered by letting me
bury you . . .

Death in small doses
is still dying,

And I see the end of everything,
the beginning no longer there;
my words so long ago . . .

No,
haunting my soul.

When God asked – are you ready?
I said – no.

I’ve yet to give away,
the words
although thou has given life to dreams,
thou has given wings
to this heart,
and let it grow over time;
and thou has taught – humility.

When God asked – are you ready?
I still said - no.

No. Because I fear
you really aren't there . . .

Oh, gee. This is such a wonderful piece of poetry. I think you capture the delicate balance of human emotion and how we can often struggle to keep it so, if that makes sense? And since life offers so much cruelty, and pain and suffering, it is enough to make one question even the self, let alone god, or a belief. I thought this was such a compelling read, with that same question punctuated throughout, I knew it would be answered differently in the end, but I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Great work!

Wonderful poetry, the depth of feeling, the honesty, has a powerful effect. The sincerity of your words really comes across, and mixing your personal experiences with imagery from nature gives this an other-worldly charm, too.

"All things work together for the good of those who love God..."
Romans 8:28

There is a heart-breaking sorrow in this poem that I know made it hard to write, thank you for sharing.

When Bitter or at peace,
Always tells the truth"

I felt every word, every feeling you walked me through, every struggle, every doubt. I travel the same path the only difference being that I dont fear that God isnt there.....I believe he is; however sometimes our crises makes us feel that He may have abandoned us.

Your style and language took me by the hand to where you wanted me to go.

Beautiful writing

Your Sincerely

Arthur

We all fear something, and the trials and tribulations of this life perhaps makes the going easier, but never easy JW - and this poems speaks exactly to that, at least to me. Your verse is couched here in almost a conversant style, which suits your purpose admirably. You eagle metaphor was stunning, cheers and well done!

I read this and it felt eerily familiar, and then I realised I'd commented on this before. Loved it the first time and love it still. Glad to see this spotlighted.

I find this piece to have a real profound sadness to it. I enjoyed it though- well done! Congrats on your spotlight.

Congratulations on the spotlight for this very deserving write. The lacings of angst, anger, frustration, bewilderment, and pain, are smoothed by the very human confessions and the admissions of questioning faith. Very nicely done and much enjoyed. Thank you
