Nightshade Belladonna

Post by BlackVelvetRose » April 16th, 2013, 1:58 am

when the lacy veil coverd this gossamer landscape
cloaked within orchids, sullen in their deepening black
i felt the coolness of crushed velvet
trapped in the darkest shadows of my arms.

i hear a faint call, tickling the tendrils of my mind,
the windless tune of the belladonna symphony
playing in the darkened night engulfed within this fevered
nightshade the sorrowful song of the nightingale.

raising my glass, a goblet of the finest silver,
full of the fairies enchanted dew.
i taste the bitterness mingling with the
sweet taste of their darkest star falling tears.

enchantment rides upon the sighing breeze
as the time and years pass us by,
but the call of the nightshade belladonna
will always remain uniquely the same.

A bed of moss was granted,
she laid down with a sigh,
Embraced by the green blankets
she kissed the world goodbye

As your name implies, so your words deliver us this velvet rose of poetry. There's something intrinsically haunting about this piece, without seeming menacing. I think I found the darkness hidden in the idea that this same poison has been used throughout history and it gives this whole write a timeless feel. It could have been written several centuries ago or (lucky for us) today and it still would hold the same eerie, ominous feel to it. Loved the choice of flower and the idea of sipping it, as if to become immune to it's deadly properties while still using them against others. Wicked work dear^^

I agree, there is great prettiness in your darkness which adds an almost innocent darker layer if that makes sense! An overall well structure and haunting poem mx

This was a captivating work with a historical bent to it. I'll have to do some more research on this nightshade belladonna. I had heard of the term in passing awhile back, but never looked into it much.

Such a call must be relief and burden at the same time. Clever point.

Cheers

The Deadly Nightshade, or Belladonna...a plant that can be used for medicinal purposes, or to kill! A dark write, but a very poetic one, and also deceptively menacing, I felt. Very well done!

Awesome write.

Who doesn't love and benefit from the Nightshades?

Belladonna: Beautiful Lady.
A beautiful poem. I truly enjoyed it.
I have met the Beautiful Lady many Times. I was a nurse and Belladonna was used in the treatment of heart disorders.

A talented write, tinged with darkness, that leaves me wondering if the substance was used therapeutically or otherwise. Congratulations are due,

A striking piece of poetry to begin with. Such elgant imagery that was beautifully employed throughtout.
I love how the opening stanza set the reader's mind on the visual effect of, if I can say, speaker's experience, and indeed there's something beautifully dark about your choice of the theme, the language and delivery. Awesome work! Congratulations on the deserved Spotlight!
