Unlooked-for Resurrections

Post by allmirth » July 27th, 2013, 12:16 am

"My life closed twice before its close-" Emily Dickinson

Unlooked-for Resurrections

You’ve opened my life
Twice now
Gently after each close
This second time
How could I dare to hope?
As after the first
Unlooked-for resurrection
I fled to safer dangers
Or, rather,
Stumbled back into them
In my flight.

Woah!

This is such a profound read! I read it many times now, and still I read it again, and love it each time.
It is just amazing how you created kinda like 'soft' contrast to the Emily's poem, especially in the opening line, both have that effective opening, there's deep, deep love rooted here, and your choice of words is brilliant with this wonderful oxymoron "safer dangers', love that!
It's to me like, the speaker was lost, and here came someone and guided her, though still it has that weird and wonderful kind of security to it. I love this, Mirthy! Spectacular job!

Glad to see you back doing a little writing? This was such a great piece! Sasha summed it up perfectly... I loved, loved, the phrase 'safer dangers'. There is some thing so alluring about that phrase. I can think of someone from HS to this day that is in my mind my 'safer danger' and those words sum it up to perfection! Ahh, the ending...to take off and flyaway, love how you close this with the brutal honestly of stumbling back in your flight. Oh how I can relate! A beautiful piece of writing! So, so glad I got to enjoy this one! Loved it!

hello Mirthy!

I concur with the rest of the comments. I am desperately familiar with the sentiments of this piece. Each line is perfection.

Take air with that flight rather than running with wings. Sing. let go and release. Fly, smile, laugh.

@Robin HS is indeed, where I met my safer danger, I can only say I should have left him there. :X:

I treasure the thought that even though one may stumble and find themselves in danger, a way out like a helping hand can be there to assist or even inspire self help. Congratulations!

Allmirth - just love the mystery of the double-deed openings
and the mystery person(?) who produces them.

And really that phrase "safer dangers' just says so much
as this life definitely fields degrees of danger every day....

Great write!

I have so much admiration for a poet who can create poetry so meaningful with relatively few words. A sprinkling of really good metaphors can make the world of difference, and right from the beginning of this one we were spoiled - "opened my life" is actually quite glorious, especially when you touch upon a life lived 'closed', and while 'safer dangers' rightly takes a lot of the plaudits, the use of the title line tells me as much about the unexpected bliss which arrived when the speaker needed it most.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

This is a deeply thoughtful piece of writing, instinctive too, the words coming from deep down, I suspect. You don't say what or who gave you these second chances, which I like, because it sparks the reader's imagination.

Make fellow poets happy and comment on their poems.
