A wonderful world

Post by Kaylum » August 10th, 2013, 12:48 am

A wonderful world

Look how great life is
A joy to breath this tainted air
As I walk these concrete streets
Paved with sweat and blood
I whistle a merry tune
Dance a jig
On the graves of those who went
To Oblivion with tear stained cheeks
Smile at a lady on the street
Beautiful in smeared mascara
With purple bruises on her face
Flip a quarter to a child in rags
Wasting away in a alley
Enjoying the innocence of youth
Pass a pair of girls
Offering a good time
very considerate of them
A shadow passes on my cheerful day
I look to the sky
The outline of a man blocking the sky trying to learn to fly
From a building so high
I wave up at him wishing him luck
Resume my Walk down the street with a skip
in my step
I stroll by a park
A group of kids playing
All against one boy huddled
on the ground
Boys will be boys
Loud bangs ripple across
The warm sunny atmosphere
My city seems to maintain
As sirens wail by
A misunderstanding the authorities
Will resolve I'm sure
I Arrive at the end of the path
Looking out from a dock
The sunset reflecting magnificently
Off the oil in the sea
A cute seagull with a fancy plastic
Necklace flounders
I sigh in self satisfaction
Close my eyes and tilt my head back
Enjoying the ignorance
 Of this wonderful world

I like the sarcasm in your poem. We do act like if everything's fine, when it is not. The two sides to every idea you present truly highlight our ignorant reactions.

Some thoughts run deep Like a well
But for shallow minds
they drown in the depths.

indeed, the sarcasm was easy to spot. still this poem does point out all of the problems plaguing cities today. it's hard to even take a walk without running into violence or seeing at least one crime happen, sometimes without even knowing it.

Phew, this one was a doozy. I feel simultaneously chastised and mad at the world... Great write.
