Destiny's End
I feel the flowing of the river
bending with the fluidity of time
it can take me backward
in the sloop of my memories
or I can take mooring in the "now"
but ever briefly
for time will not stand still
only in photographs does it stop
yet time will curl the papers edges
and turn them lightly brown
while my earthly vessel
carries me on to destiny's end
I feel the flowing of the river
bending with the fluidity of time
it can take me backward
in the sloop of my memories
or I can take mooring in the "now"
but ever briefly
for time will not stand still
only in photographs does it stop
yet time will curl the papers edges
and turn them lightly brown
while my earthly vessel
carries me on to destiny's end

This is a very beautiful piece. Read it twice, once in my head, and once more aloud, and the flow is amazing. Guessing you took your inspiration from water..? Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Destiny's End
I love this poem. It says so much. Do we live just in our memories? Life carries on , and on, until we all arrive at our journey's end, and that is when we will discover our destiny. You have really made me take stock of what I have done in my life. It takes moving words to make the reader re-discover himself. Your poem has done that for me.
Thank you for sharing, I am looking forward to seeing more of your writings.

Re: Destiny's End
I love the extended metaphor in this one, particularly the latter half of the poem where you develop, if you'll pardon the pun, the theme with the inclusion of a photograph; while that is the only way of "freezing" time, it's the perfect contrast to life itself which marches on regardless.
This is expressed with the fluidity of the river it describes, and is a great fit for enlightened.
Superb!

Hello, and thank you to everyone who responded to this poem. I appreciate all your thoughts and comments. I haven't been around much lately because I had eye surgery recently. So that is why I haven't responded until now.

Re: Destiny's End
I find it so odd, how when we are young, we can not even imagine what getting older is like. It isn't until we have arrived, that we suddenly discover that, had we known, we would have prepared better for. And why is it that when we are 12, a summer day stretches out endlessly in front of us, and time, does indeed, seem to stand still. But when we are 72, a summer day arrives on the horizon and sets into twilight all within a matter of a few moments. Still, we are all joined by the fact we all will, eventually arrive at the same destiny, though the port of entry may be somewhat different depending on our beliefs and our life experiences. Excellent write.

I love the flow of this, not only the words, but also how you unfold this idea, it feels very natural and real and because of that it reached me.

Carries me on to destiny's end"
What wonderful wording.

Re: Destiny's End
It's great getting another opportunity to read this one. As I mentioned, the poem flows much like the river it describes, with consistency and without a strong pause, making for a great contrast to a photograph. It's interesting that even the photo starts to age and show signs of wear, like art truly imitating life.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

Re: Destiny's End
Beautiful imagery...I saw the poem as a reflection of cherished moments, sealed into paper and forever still in photographs yet..you made it so that nothing lasts forever...not even those photographs as they slowly begin to rot ....Beautiful !!! <3
