The Glimpse

Post by Namyh » October 28th, 2013, 6:22 pm

The Glimpse

Would you take the grand step 'cross the sky
to stars whose sparkles beckon ?
And sever the umbilical cord of gravity,
be awed by planetary majesty,
embrace God’s endless silvern tapestry
and escape Earth's pull each second.

Then step on soil of a distant star,
first footprint at Heaven’s gate.
For centuries, you pointed to journey there
to catch that glimpse of God so rare.
Now your arrow, man made of tensiled gear,
is a star leaping Ark of Faith.

And tho' you're a faint echo of a tiny whisper
in the thunder of Time called Man;
a trembling leaf on an outstretched branch,
a blade of grass on dry land,
a corner patch on some crazy quilt
where good and evil reign.
But Greatest wonder, your relentless search
to jump the stars in a single lurch,
to sit on God’s cosmic perch
and view the Earth again !

OH Namyh - best thing I've read in many days, and I read a lot. To see the future as you depict it, and only hope that we can cope. How do I nominate this for an extra TPS award, because this is extraordinary - and for that I thankyou very much, cheers!

dwells – Thanks a bunch for that nomination and for finding this work worthy. I’m truly humbled. We are an evolving species with a finite lifespan living on a small planet in a tiny solar system of a universe barely out of its diapers. Heck! We’re just starting to take off our pampers, even if we still drool. LOL. Kinda makes me proud to be a member tho' who looked up at the stars one night and started writing. I guess we still got time to write a poem or two or three about ‘glimpses’. Thanks for taking a ‘glimpse’ this way and enjoying the view dwells. Namyh

mangodog – Indeed ‘glimpses’ make for grand sweeps of words, emotions and spirit. It kinda primes us to want a better look, a better peek. Often a dream is just a glimpse of what could be that ignites the imagination to make it real. It’s been a cornerstone of human history from the beginning. Just thought I’d write a little bit about it while being proud you found a little beauty here too. Thanks a lot drew for droppin’ on in. Namyh

Khurram - Stardate 247399 – This is the Captain. We have just severed the umbilical cord of Earth’s gravity and are now enroute to the cosmic perch on Gamma-Epsilon 7 per Starfleet orders. We’ve just beamed on board Khurram, noted author and poet of stage and screen fame, who has elected to travel with us to where no Khurram has gone before. We are attempting an untried “single lurch” by the Warp engines to that “cosmic perch” so far away. Hang in their gang and strap in pilgrims ‘cause here we go! Captain Namyh out. Okay, punch it Scotty......Whoosh! LOL. Thanks for riding along with astronomical enjoyment Khurram. Namyh

Tangie, Tangie, Tangie – You have injected a major honor in my day with your words and I don’t want a cure. That you found the writing exceptional, the structure marvelous and the theme innovative are brain expansion elements whose swelling requires me to get a much bigger hat than I now have. Whoa! I thank you so much for your wonderful words of enjoyment. Just for that, I’m going to the store to buy a bushel of tangerines. No! No! Don’t even try and stop me! I’ll fight to the death for my tangerines! I’m armed! LOL. Thanks Tangie for today’s wonderful inspiration. Namyh
P.S. – Now what time does the grocery close again! I hope they carry big hats for my head. LOL

This is truly wonderful and something that happens rarely for a writer. It is as if all the needed ingredients fell into place, mixed them self together with your most capable and talented stirring, and spread themselves out upon this place, for us all to imbibe upon, to consume, ingest and be sated by. The tale itself touches upon Man's need to discover that which he is not familiar with, to push his boundaries, to find adventure and thrilling new vistas. Your presentation was eloquent and unique and very memorable. Most enviable. Thank you and congratulations on the Spotlight. So Very Deserving. Sue

Although your first stanza accomplished the task of introducing the meat of your poem and had lots of poetic language, I was entranced with 'And sever the umbilical cord of gravity,'
The second and third stanza catapulted me into a whole new dimension of time and space. BRAVO!
Congrats on the TPS Spotlight.

Love the scope of this, it looks out, it looks to the beyond, looks toward things we can only glimpse in our age, but we can imagine, as you do here. Well done.

Ladywildalice – Ahhh Shucks Sue. You say the nicest things and I thank you for all of them. There is a little of the God-seeker in all of us that needs to push boundaries. Some believe a rocket will get you there. Some believe the sprituality inside is the entrance and some believe the upper reaches of the mind may be the opening doorway. In essence all of us just want a peek, a look or maybe just a glimpse because we are a nosy species and can’t suppress our relentless curiosity to take that grand step 'cross the sky. It’s in the blood. It’s even on television when we 'boldly go'. LOL. Thanks for all your wonderful words, thoughts and congrats. Definitely puts a Sue-spotlight in my hall of fame today. Namyh

flux - Scientists say we are the end result of 19 previous species of Man dying out over the last 7 million years. In geologic time, under 1% of the Earth’s age, we’ve been here for less than a full blink of the human eye. Kinda makes me wanna rush out and check my medical insurance again, LOL. And even though I’m just a faint echo of a tiny whisper in the thunder of Time, I’m proud to be a member of a species that walked out of a cave and stepped onto a moon. I just hope we last long enough to merit a second blink of that eye before becoming one of the 19 who didn’t. Thanks for stopping by to love the scope, to look beyond and take a ‘glimpse’ with imagination. I'm feelin' your flow, flux. Namyh

Sometimes I read poetry and prose on the cosmos which seems to humble the speaker, as though the sheer size and scale of it is overwhelming. In this case, while the speaker sees the skies with the same reverence, rather than humble them it seems to completely inspire them, like there is so much to reach out and grasp, even for only a glimpse! I was especially fond of the final stanza, it was so relentless and perfectly paced, building to a crescendo in the ending!
Congratulations on the spotlight!
