Dance of Many Veils
perform for them
the dance
of day breaks shadows
let them see the secrets
flash within your eyes
mysterious smile
behind a silken veil
heartbeat
punctuating the music
of a thousand
misty nights past
reveal not your heartbreak
instead present
your pleasing art
to an audience
of the emotionally stunted
perform for them
the dance
of day breaks shadows
let them see the secrets
flash within your eyes
mysterious smile
behind a silken veil
heartbeat
punctuating the music
of a thousand
misty nights past
reveal not your heartbreak
instead present
your pleasing art
to an audience
of the emotionally stunted

Re: Dance Of Many Veils
I like the rhythm and momentum.
Is this from the point of view of a dancer or a more real look at society and people?
Is it really from the point of view of someone different different from the general populous plying the art of disguise to fit in, while the real lies unseen. Hidden beneath many layers.
Only showing pieces of the puzzle, and mocking the targets of this deception as it is a deception invited, and indeed created by them?
very intriguing. Thank you.

Re: Dance Of Many Veils
The ending line to this is incredibly cutting, and while it is directed toward the audience I can't help but feel it's also a little bit of a slight against the dancer who knowingly performs for them. I really like how you managed to convey the seductive style of the dancer through your diction, while managing to underpin it with descriptions of what is going on beyond her outer appearance. She only shows the teasing outer layer, yet it is only an act, because it suggests there's something more pained beneath.
There's an air of sultry darkness to this one, it's a very deep read.

Dear Quercus, Everhopeful and djk,
This is a scenario of "Casting pearls before swine" The dancer is a slave and victim of society. Thank you all for your most welcome comments and thoughts!

Flawless execution! The dance of many veils works wonderfully as an extended metaphor for putting a face on for the world. This was most pleasing to read! An awesome spotlight! I think I have found a bookmark poem to revisit! Too many words to try and describe how this pleased my tastes...awesome! Congrats on the spotlight! - Dew

Re: Dance Of Many Veils
Cat.......congratulations on this well deserving piece. I heard the bells of Solome and for a moment was transported to the Kingdom of many pleasures. But there is another current running through this, that of knowing one's own worth and ignoring those that must be dealt with who are so self-absorbed and secluded in their own little world, they can neither see nor appreciate the gifts before them. Excellent work, Cat, truly, and very well enjoyed. Congrats again. Sue

Sounds like a bachelor party to me maybe Cat? Many veils for many tastes, or in this case as you imply, monolithic perhaps. Much enjoyed and congrats on the brilliance!

Re: Dance Of Many Veils
That last line gets me again, it's such an abrupt way to conclude a poem written with the grace of the dancer it describes that it really stands out, it really frames the piece in a completely different way and helps take it to another level.
I enjoyed reading this one again, congratulations on the spotlight!

This poem is extremely sad… but I really like the words and the way they play on the paper. Nicely done. I enjoyed this a lot!

Re: Dance Of Many Veils
Hi. Congrats fellow Spotlighter! What an absorbing piece of poetry. I too, I must say, was extremely shocked at the ending, but it works terrifically. There is a sense of cold throughout, this is done not for the love of art but for the need of life. The format also supports this, with a line breaks such as:
Behind a silken veil
heartbeat
A well deserved spotlight from a delightful member and strong supporter of TPS.
