Put this in forms because the inspiration was those epicly long and elaborate poems about heros. However, what about opposite of the form: the anti-epic?

Youths to war
To show ‘em
Ceased their lives
And poem
~Alan
btw, if it's too short that even with poetic license the grammar is too poor and you don't understand, be honest.

With so few words, you said so much. The last line particularly, i'm not sure if its a typo, or a deliberate pun.
Either way it was well penned and very much liked.

Life is but a stab in the dark, sooner or later a light will be stuck.
But even then, sometimes we cannot realise the seriousness of our problems, until we turn on the light.

I thought it was a really cool idea! The antithesis to the very idea of 'epic' poetry. But the irony is you penned the perfect epigram! In your efforts to subvert the systematic, you embraced it marvelously! I think this is become one of my very favorite epigrams! Outstanding!!!!! I hope it doesn't irk you that I keep calling it that...but truly...this is inspired. So completely pleasing and witty! - dew

A poem cut short, as a young life in battle, definitely an "epi" - cheers Alan (took me a minute to get the closing but that made it all the more rewarding). So much for Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, cheers!

Re: Youths to War ("anti-epic")
Understanding it will take me some time ...
A tongue in check definition of the classical Epics is there (the first three lines), a somber reflection on the recruited soldier's mindset (show 'em), epic writers do in a way "cease their lives "to show 'em", "And poem" - end poem - end of soldier's life - end of poetic view of war - death of the war heros is end of most epic poems - in death moving on from war to heaven ...
Could say you have created EPIC layers of meaning with 11 words (15 if you count the title).

Brevity is often more effective that a lengthy narrative,as you have demonstrated. Congratulations on reaching the Spotlight,
