From you I learn that truth is always
on the water.
The night was drawn in citric sugar breath,
in dark beyond the bedside lamp
and me,
all curve and shape around the fact
of you.
This is the last of a sort of three-parter. The other two can be found below:
Double Point
Triple Point
Single Point

Re: Single Point
When we find the person who becomes the focal point in our lives, every rule changes. Truth is dressed in shades of gray. Not everything will be sugarcoated, most times it will have a bite. Enjoy the person, the moments, and the time together.

sigh
My summertime frame of mind seems to render me incapable of offering you a more articulate comment than this sated sigh. It is wonderful to read you again.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Re: Single Point
Hey duder, excuse my lateness - much like Stevie G in his prime, I aim to arrive late in the box and bury it like a boss!
I think this needs to be read in context with the first two parts to fully appreciate, particularly as the sense I'm left with is a massive change in the mind of the speaker. In the first part it felt like the speaker was somewhat at the mercy of water, or at least conscious of how inflexible he was by contrast to its ability to take shape from its surrounds. Now I sense a switch, as though the speaker has found his island which he can shape himself around. Those final two lines are so good, the feeling of becoming so at one with someone you can fit with them like a glove, it's a really heartening image to leave the poem and series with.
Cool work man, it's always good to read you.

Re: Single Point
i am of the same (or similar) opinion as everhopeful in that really this should be read as a poem in three parts rather than three separate poems. the way in which you expand on how water takes on the shape of it's container just as people that are close to each other will take on each others shape, is marvelous. i didn't fully grasp this point until i read all three parts. the first part does stand alone as a fine piece tho. the somewhat surrealistic description of the night's sugared breath that in darkness holds the cast of lamplight wrapping around and joining together the two people as they lay down to sleep is really well done. so i just wanted to chime in and give a thumbs up. there's more in those three little pieces that i need to look at though i'm about to have to sign off.. but i do plan on reading the whole triad through several times when i get back. excellent stuff.

Re: Single Point
A bit disappointing that the spotlight selector didn't go all the way and spotlight all three of the series together! While I stand by my original assertion that this is best appreciated in context with the other two, I certainly enjoyed re-reading it as a standalone - 'citric sugar breath' is lovely, and a nice mix of science and poetry, but those last two lines really seal the deal in style, 'the fact / of you' is such a strong way to convey someone's steadfastness and influence on the speaker.
Congratulations on the spotlight, I implore you to note how beautifully I didn't flame you at all in this comment ;)
