White Floaty Things
Post
by domvanday » July 29th, 2014, 3:05 pm
Her silk’d seed entices my skin closer to Amen.
Two hundred or more wept from a single breeze
all wrapped tight within the white of velveteen cotton,
wild cocoons born in flight from our Cottonwood Tree.
They fear no lie as they steal time with feminine dignity,
with a freedom to envy, with a grace to be shared.
Their sublimes waltz into any eye, blessing by tranquillity,
her nomadic gypsies finally flying free on the whims of wind.
I have become part of their beautiful and happily without choice.
My body is natured, befriended within her coat of maternal ease
and my soul at content, carried in zig-zags to the heaven of clouds.
In tomorrows I will return to you with truths,
of far off valleys and Cottonwood dales,
of family blankets of pure summer snow,
of concentration, creation and continuation.
For every eye transfixed by your white floaty things,
I thank you for your (not so) wooden heart.

Concentration, creation, and continuation are insightful gifts of the cottonwood tree, as N offers a glimpse of a lone tree with its release of so many seeds into the free whims of the wind to be carried to a soil where a seed may begin to root and grow into a cottonwood tree. So many seeds are lost along the way, but there is always hope for the continuation of life. This poem offers so much more opportunity for the reader to think. Thank you for sharing.

The sheer beauty of your language and imagery here makes this poem a joy to read. It works so well as a straightforward nature poem about cottonwood trees, but I must agree with Josie; there really is a lot of room for the reader to think here if they so choose. Personally I read it twice from both perspectives and both readings were stirring. Excellent write!

I absolutely adore this! The imagery, the language, each line I feel myself getting lost in. Beautiful and indeed a pleasure to read! Oh and I love the title!

I only saw these once in a beachfront park along Lake Michigan. The title was a must read Dom, and you never disappoint. Your insightful images wove a tale of mystical intrigue; cheers for this wonder in need of notice. True heartwood indeed, and a fine portrait too in the text!

Quite good. I especially liked your image:
"wept from a single breeze"
On the first level, it is a very beautiful description.
But what if the word "wept" is considered at the second level?
Might the breeze have been sad that it couldn't keep the fluffy toys?

I love the imagery in this poem, me being a Nomad at heart, and floating through my days. Love it.

Very magical, mystical in the best spirit of Romanticism, but also a kind of celebration of nature and the connections we make, the conclusions we draw from encountering the sublime.
