January sleeping
with the frozen and the dead.
February rising
like an old man from his bed.
March, the gentle stirring
of creatures of the wing.
April brings the glad rebirth
of every living thing.
May, we dare to venture
to the meadow and the glade.
June, we lie as lovers
in the early evening shade.
July, cast off our troubles
hand in hand along the shore.
August's breeze seduces us
but leaves us wanting more.
September, we keep cheerful
for the summer we once knew.
October leaves us tearful
as we bid the sun adieu.
November, seeking shelter
from the wind and icy rain.
December whispers quietly,
"Lets go round again."
with the frozen and the dead.

Re: The Wheel
This is a cool piece. I like the effect of the year written out this way. Although if I were writing it here from Canada, the majority would simply read "is too cold." xD Seriously, though, I enjoyed this very much. You have a knack for rhyme because you have a natural sense of sound and meter and it works well for this poem. I like that you gave each month its own image, something that reminds the reader of it. I also like that you played on the feeling/mood of the months. You can see in this poem the way the mood shifts throughout the year. The joys of spring and summer, the reminiscing during fall, and finally the depressing horrible winter that makes you look forward to the next year when it gets warm again. Great closing line.

Re: The Wheel
"February rising like an old mand from his bed" did it for me. Very good one!

Re: The Wheel
Loved this piece so awesome. I love getting glimpses of what it must be like to have the dramatic season changes: hot summer, bright autumn and fall, snowy winter, bright spring and your poem captured it all. I wish I could see it :) Thanks for sharing

Re: The Wheel
worthy of the spotlight for sure.
The momentum of the wheel turning is clearly felt - solid work.

Re: The Wheel
I think there is some parallel here (perhaps slightly out of phase) with a human life... Or maybe I'm inferring an old trope where none was implied. In any case, it's a beautiful poem.

Re: The Wheel
Congratulations on the TPS Spotlight recognition. It was a perfect poem for January. The ending wrapped around to the beginning like a wheel. The short two lines for each month helped to make the favorite seasonal fun seem closer and to especially encourage the reader to anticipate those warmer days. Your rhymes were like wheels moving the reader right to the next month.

Re: The Wheel
Although the premise of this poem is a relatively simple one, I know from experience of trying pieces with a similar approach that it is far from easy to construct. While not only conveying something seasonally appropriate in the space of two lines, the narrative actually binds together a story which flows at an appropriate and logical place. What could be an 'I' poem becomes very much a 'we' poem, and it's incredibly engaging for that.
A really enjoyable read, congratulations on the spotlight!

Re: The Wheel
This was very beautifully written as it's rhythm follows the songs of the wheel; wonder tone and timing and an altogether enjoyable read. Well done and congratulations

Spectacular and lovingly illustrated. My favorite line - December whispers quietly, "Lets go round again."
Do you know what I'm thinking? No. Neither do I; Frightening, isn't it?

Re: The Wheel
I really enjoyed this the first time I read it, and I'm glad to see that it was chosen for spotlight. My favorite thing about it is the way the mood shifts through the year, as I said in my initial comment. It's a great portrait of the seasons and the way they impact us. Congrats on the well-deserved spotlight!
