Medication

Post by Legally Sane » January 26th, 2015, 1:12 am

Watch as a vivid fire ceases roaring, though-
It's not completely dead, you can still see an orange glow.
It didn't die naturally, it was halted artificially
Neither wants it dead. Not now, nor initially

In a plastic world where a pill is the answer
Side effects are romance's cancer
I'm not very subtle. So frankly spit,
We're in between two piles of s-----

Caution to the wind, no matter the weather?
Or is numbness for safety the option that's better?
I'm torn I'll admit. But what caught me off guard
Is when you felt nothing. Swallowing that is hard

I always knew that pills would come back to bite me
But through somebody else. The definition of irony
But I look in her eyes, and I see she still cares
I'll stay by your side. I'll always be there

Great evocation of sadness here, I liked the word choices made, the images implied the sentiment although.
Good write

The first couplet in stanza two left me nodding away, it was a great one for helping to put the entire poem in context, and I feel like I can understand and appreciate where the speaker was coming from there. I won't go into detail on that front, but the general sentiment of medication being used to create a bit of a limbo might help to shelter us from the lows, but it really takes the edge off the highs too.
I like the poetic voice of this one too, there is some fury about it, but it's controlled.

Some of us have medical handicaps and need medicine. Others take pills just to get high. Life is so short, do not take pills that are not for you from a doctor, you could be flirting with death. Valentine

Congratulations on this spotlight of yours! Well-deserved!

I love how you sowed suffering and futility throughout this write but took it away with hope. Oiur addictions are our failures that some just can't accept. But the ones that will are more than worth it

I really admired the construction of this piece, it has a few very lyrical, quotable lines which are as memorable for their sound as their impact on the mind.
Enjoyed reading this again, and congratulations on the spotlight!

I adore this line: "It didn't die naturally, it was halted artificially". Awesome work here. Congrats on your spotlight!

The images in this piece are lovely, and everhopeful commented on what I was going to, the lyrical quality of the work. Very nice job. Congrats on your spotlight!

About a month ago, I started taking medication for depression and anxiety. This poem speaks to me on a personal level. Thank you for writing it, and good job on the spotlight
