Celebrations in Purple Silk

Post by Ladywildalice » March 2nd, 2015, 8:11 pm

On rising up this Winter's morn,
with chill winds moaning past my door,
I splayed the blinds, only to find
slush and muddy snow once more.
But high above, the sky, so blue....
a bluer morn I've never seen.
On windowsill, in sunlight grew
my deep-felt need of hopeful green.
In miniscule, just overnight,
a fingerling of verdant lift, erupts
from out the sweet, dark scent
of potting soil and eggshell grit.
I sat, in Purple silken gown,
and gazed with longing
at that bud, imagining the sight,
the sound of Spring now stirring
'neath the mud. I know I heard it
whispering, the quiet way that plants
can sing, "Do not despair, just smell
the air, the Birds are once more
on the Wing." I'm sure the neighbors
stood in trace, amazed to see across
the way, that woman in the purple
gown, holding a plant, she danced
and swayed. And, if they did, I'm sure
that they were also privy to my
glee, as in the sunlight's promised
warmth, we laughed out loud,
the plant and me.

I can see this in my mind's eye and revel in your celebration of life renewed Sue. Just a superb bit of artistry that sometimes throws me off a bit with line breaks, but the driving and unforced rhyme and rhythm carried me effortlessly along in this rite of Spring.

This really is a joyous poem and it manages to be a perfect fit for the enlightened board without ever explicitly focusing on a specific element of faith, merely showing that there is life and promise in even the coldest and bleakest places. It's not just a symbol of spring, it's a symbol of resilience and the ability to overcome even the most testing circumstances - and that is surely worthy of a dance, even in your robe!
A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Hi Ladywildalice, this work shows the reader how the simple things really do matter in life and we should all take the time to rejoice in them, whatever they may be. Good rhythm and rhymes throughout this dance of new life.

This definitely has a unique feel and tone, but it's of course still poetry since you took something that was important to you and impressed it. I also like how you brought in how others may perceive what you are doing as well. Great work here!

Kudos to the spotlight selector this week, all three pieces are brilliant poems.
I was impressed by this one first time around and it hasn't lost any of its charm upon re-reading, particularly as it is so well timed with me needing something to induce a smile during a cold winter. The split in the imagery between the dirty snow and the clean sky sums up the dual perspective of this poem, sometimes we have to look to the skies to find our inspiration.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

Lady:

Congratulations on being in the spotlight! What beauty and warmth this poem brings. Although as cold and muddy the outside was. Love was found in a single living emblem of Spring. Awesome. expertly written.
Way to go!

This is so beautifully and delicate created. It reads best out loud. And as it seems a story, for me the purple gown added up to the whole image. I began to see a side story in it too, a lady in her parlor and a story about the winter and seasons, greatly enjoyed!!!

Enchanting and beautiful, a delight to contemplate the beautiful pictures and enticements that hide under the snow, excellent phrasing and flow. Cogratulations, Loretta

This was very sweet and endearing. Loved the descriptions and your elegant use from rhyming. My favorite line: "my deep-felt need of hopeful green". So thankful to share the spotlight with someone who has such a talent. Congrats!
