Day Dream
Sheltered in the dappled shade of leaves
and rested by the soporific air
of river sounds that sooth and give us ease
I turn and, as you sleep, I stroke your hair.
I watch your face and see a little smile;
perhaps my touch has made you dream of me.
Dream on my love, for in a little while
you must return to life's reality.
Then I shall laugh as you look all around,
confused at first, forgetting where we came.
But you will frown as slowly you come round
and then, as always, I shall take the blame.
For you will say how wrong to let you be;
and I shall ask “Well, did you dream of me?”.

Hi Pennit;
a beautiful Shakespearean sonnet with clearly written quatrains and a clinching couplet. Reading this sonnet aloud, no faults were detected by this sonneteer. Nice work, Pennit.

Sterling sonnet Pennit, and I think I'll pose that same question sometime soon to my awaking wife. The reader readily can share in this dream-like state with the poet, and only hope for a similar outcome someday. Cheers and well done! - Dan - the embodiment of a sweet serenity.

Bravo!!! The form use was patent but light and free at the same time. The content was so charming and warming. and the end couplet was a marvelous punctuation to the whole. An outstanding sonnet! I welcome you to TPS and I hope you find a home in the sanctuary!! - dew

Re: Day Dream (Shakespearean Sonnet)
When I read such lovely poetry of love I feel a little sad and bereft. Although I do not have the exclusive love of a lover or partner, I am comforted by close friends who care enough to say "I love you, no matter what is happening to you." We survive thus. A perfect little love poem for a lucky woman. It must be good to twang my heartstrings. :)
