Suddenly, the whole world went dull
All of the sparkly lights,
Let their twinkle fade into the darkness of the heavens

I broke a cardinal rule
I hoped, when you always told me I shouldn't
And now, the fire in my eyes has died
Down to a flicker
Still, I'm waiting...

None the wiser am I
After seeing the brilliance of your colors,
Disappear before my eyes
Come back; kiss me one last time
Before you close the door

I'll whistle to myself,
Our song of castles in the air
I'll twirl my hair around my finger
Sitting on your front step; back at your door
While I wait...

"front step back" was a nice order to find those words in...it sounds really nice as a preparation for the last line on 'waiting'. - dew

Waiting for someone who has gone is never easy, the hope that they will return, instead of making it light only makes it seem bittersweet as although you know they won't be back you still can't help but hope. A really nice poem, thanks for sharing
