The bones of the civil society
are the words at the core of its being.
Confusing them in our variety
brings the chaos today you are seeing.
Subverting the speech of a nation
for advantage or personal gain.
Destroying the founding equation
with arguments false or inane.
Silencing all opposition
with twisted words meant to incite,
and justice-veiled threats of sedition
loose the dogs, while you turn out the light.

Re: Parsing Perdition
So very talented Mr. Dan.
Love the title to start with. And that imperfect rhyme of society with variety.
What an elegant and eloquent way you have pursued to describe the propagandized bullsh*t covering up the real-politik of self-interest, fraud. power-mongering, narcissism and mendacity.
best, molly

Re: Parsing Perdition
An interesting definition for perdition: 'complete and utter ruin'
and I suppose parsing is 'analysing' - A fantastic title.
The rhyme scheme is well thought out - 1 of your best Daniel.
cheers

Molly - your summation is better than my poetry; many thanks and cheers! - Dan
Jason - you all keep me anchored in semi-reality (it's only a movie), and glad you liked this effort since it was a cut above some of my recent wordfbarf - cheers friend, Dan
NS - too busy to pay attention, and now it's too late to make a difference - cheers! - Danny Downer

Re: Parsing Perdition
I'm with Molly on this. You've hit the nail right on the head and have my vote. There is so little we can trust in nowadays. An excellent read, with my congratulations on the Spotlight. (Belated, but sincere).

Re: Parsing Perdition
I especially like the great importance you put on words, on rhetoric.. how so much rides on the meanings we ascribe to certain concepts. The trip from phrase into emotion is so quick and the pathways that we have collectively given it to travel are so one-dimensional. I appreciate your effort to add dimension(s) to these interpretations.

Re: Parsing Perdition
I think this is insightful to what we are experiencing in our culture today. Sometimes I will listen to a speech and actually feel satisfied until I hear the speech reviewed by the 'talking heads'. While I hate the stressful reaction I have, I do prefer to hear both sides of an issue regardless of how uncomfortable the listening might be. Congratulations on the TPS Spotlight.

Re: Parsing Perdition
Many thanks to Falsie, Vinny, Jsol, Alex, Flamey, and Josie! Suffice to say that we are losing clarity when our speech is replete with code words, dog whistles, and PC jargon that can obscure the most basic issues with esoteric blather.
Don't get me started (OH...) Cheers all! -Dan
